Dear oh dear oh dear.

Just put on MTV dance on my TV downstairs with the Dance Floor Chart show just started with some really hot presenter (the UK version) and they played Paul Van Dyk - Crush which is at #10, she then said "that's paul van dyk - crush, moving from a dutch producer to a italian...." I pissed myself.

What the they playing at? they play 50 Cent and Eminem and D12 and call it "dance" :S hmm.... Sean Paul as well? dont think so somehow :-/ they rarely play anything decent, and they have thick as presenters :(

thats one for the books, Paul van Dyk being a dutchie, hahaha! :)

Well rap is EDM, so they are technically correct. I like watching them around midnight onwards. I'm too young to remember the rave scene, but thanks to Wicked Beats I feel like I was there all along.

Well technically, hip hop is EDM rather than rap.

Hip hop = the beats
Rap = the rhymes (generally speaking)

MTV are just out to make money. All of their channels eventually turn to a steaming heap. I guess MTV Dance is no exception. It used to be quite good, back in the days when it was only broadcast from 7pm - 6am. But then the money-hungry fat-cats put it on 24/7 when all the little pop kiddies are about, so now they play what the little pop kiddies want. It's a shame really, but not unexpected.

MTV dance sucks. Anyone been watching their recent 'hard dance anthems' show? about half of it could actually be classed as hard dance :p

MTV must DIE

Eh, really not an argument for me... like BT said, really, without a drum machine, what is hip-hop music? Or without sampling? So I don't mind.

I don't make much of a quibble between "hip-hop" and "rap" music because those rappers are havin' beat beds to rhyme over. So it's one part of the equation, kinda like how a human can live without one kidney but it's still a vital organ. Similarly, if people are going to say a "song" is something that doesn't include words and lyrics (or, "a lyric" in the singular), I don't make a big deal. I know what's meant and am not out to poke people.

Basically, speed it up +30/40 BPM and you've got breaks (BT showed this himself with his Laptop Symphony live sets). Double the tempo and you've got some sort of drum 'n' bassy mutation. Still fussy? Okay, throw in some techy bass or growly SFX and there ya go. The connections are all there, some people just like to segregate it more than what the truth actually shows it to be. And the naysayers will inevitably get pushed aside in the tides of history as people who want to try something with a twist, will try something with a twist.

And hence, the spectrum of many kinds of diverse music... many colors, one rainbow :D
