How do you break out?

Ive been improving and a about a month ago i was spinning the best i had ever, but since then ive been quite bad, abandoning sets 1/2 way though (my gear messes on me at times)

Suggestion? ie take a week off? spin 3x a day? spin new styles? plan out my mix's before hand?

I think this happens to everyone, but even if not, you're not alone - it's happened to me. You know the old saying, if you fall off the horse, get right back on (maybe that's just a Texas thing). The point is, don't let it discourage you. Stick with it. Instead of abandoning sets halfway because of frustration, finish them through. When I used to have an off night I would look back on it.... Usually it was because I was too tired, too drunk, too sober, etc. Learn to play in all those conditions and those annoying slumps will be taken care of.

been there too many times......sometimes i just don't spin for a week or 2 .......but i have found 2 quick fixes:

1- buy a new piece of equipment

2- go buy some new vinyl......its better when i'm in a slump to go to a record store vs online shop......this way i get all excited on the drive home ready to spin'm

I get the exact same thing from time to time. I always end up just leaving a mix half way through, turn everything off and thinking of selling all my equipment on ebay and cutting my losses.

But just give it a rest, and listen to a good liveset or go clubbing. After a good night out clubbing i normally cannot wait to get back on my decks.

if you get stuck in a rut with your learning curve, give it a week off and buy some new records at the end of the week. that way you will get to it with a fresher mind and fresh tunes.

another thing to do might be to look at the techniques you use, and find which one it is that is keeping you in the rut, then try a slightly different method. try new tricks and tweaks etc

I was feeling that bit lately. I reorganised my records. They used to be a bit of random mess and all differnt styles and stuff. So I was playing the same stuff alot and getting pissed off with my collection. But now I've refound loads of ace tunes.

Go back to whatever made you love doing it in the first place whatever inspired you to buy your first decks etc. Whenever i get in a rut i always put on a Nu-NRG set and listen to that and then i'm good to go.
