Yes Michael Moore does make, left-wing biased propaganda. But the difference is that he's doing the same stuff that the right-wing has been doing since at least the 40's, and really his stuff isn't much worse,in terms of bias, than the stuff you see in the mainstream media anyway. That's why I find him much easier to tolerate than the FOX network. As a phenomenon he is also interesting, from a Faucaldian "power" perspective.

yup, and if Bill O'Reily made a movie, i'd call him an idiot too. |

Does Michael Moore live in the US currently? And if he does, why?
I'd prolly see this when it comes out on video, but I agree with the person who stated that Moore bitches about everything wrong instead of trying to fix things.

| wether i agree with moore or not, i like contreversy and i think his ideas (some of which are EXTREME) make for a good conversation. btw (in the trailer), when he asks that senator about having their family enlist in the armed forces, moore actually edited out the response, which was "yes, i have a nephew over there right now" |

Stop gurgling your fathers cum, and realize that the Jury was composed of 4 americans and 4 other international judges. The head of the Jury this year was none other than Quentin Tarentino!!!
Take that E out of your ass, its affecting the you spew out of your mouth |

The difference is, Michael Moore represents a point of ciew that is marginalized. The right-wing dominates the media and perpetrates the same bias every day, so I find it refreshing to have an equally biased view expressed from the opposite side receive a great deal of attention in the West for once.

You are obviously studing and becoming a scholar. |
Well, I wouldn't call myself a scholar, my theoretical knowledge is laughable compared to a lot of my friends. I'm just getting by at uni, a career in academia is not something that I would even consider at this stage.
| quote: | | I am actually studying power politics myself and was surprised to see you use political jargon such as "Faucaldian". What are you studying? |
I'm doing a BCom/LLB. Finished the commerce degree, now into a few years of straight law :nervous:. Personally I prefer to think of Faucalt as a philosopher than a political theorist, but I would agree that the applicability of his theories and even strategies certainly sets him apart from most of the postmodernist movement (if it can be called a movement). I think every degree should begin with a grounding in philosophy... it is a very rewarding field of study personally, even if it doesn't always lead to any material benefits.
| quote: | Actually I am reading Fahrenheit 451 right now, coincidence huh?
I actually bought the movie as well on K-Mart for 11,95, think I'll be seing it next week. They are also doing a remake of it, can't wait till it's being released. |
To tell you the truth I've never actually seen/read it. Heard a lot about it though. |

| just because michael moore doesn't agree with the bush regime doesn't mean he does not like the u.s. dont call him a traitor because he doesn't agree with the current government. if anything i consider him a patriot for exercising his rights. |

I look forward to watching this when it comes out. I was thoroughly impressed by Bowling for Columbine, and i hope that this film will live up to the hype.
Of course, many people will criticise Michael Moore for attacking the US government in this 'age of terrorism', many people will point out that he is a hypocrite who has made a lot of money out of his books and films, many people will complain that all he does in whinge, and he doesn't do anything about it.
To this, i say that he is doing something about it by exposing the general population to a different (and marginalised) point of view that is largely suppressed by the mainstream media. The effect of this cannot be understated. His films do contain bias, and he does use some creative editing to get his point across, but there is still a background of truth. The facts are what speak volumes to me.
I'm sure Michael Moore will cop a lot of flack when this comes out, but the reality is, he is exercising his right to free speech under a democracy, and under the US constitution. Kudos to him, i say. |
