no way!
last time when he was here i was disapointed, this time lawler was relentless and just kept laying down one sick track after another, and the crowd was great as well, even tho half of them were outside smoking :P |

I was too tired to stay for more than a couple hours of his set, but I found it really enjoyable- not as 'dirty' as i would have liked, but I can't complain. I prefered his set at guv, (not the last time he was here but the time before), but I liked last night more than the last time her was, more likley b/c i found the vibe at the system 5 ear to be really aggressive. PPl were in good spirits, it wasn't as packed as last time.
matty played well up in the front room. i find the layout a little distressing tho- keeping ppl in the front room for the earlier portion of the night makes sense (so the club looks more jumpin' rather than having ppl scattered all pover a big space), however, keeping ppl in one room and then 'releasing' them into the mainroom sort of makes the front room seem like a weird holding pen, and ppl don't seem to want to come back, regardless of what music is being played. It also still feels unfinished b/c of the white walls. I wish they would paint the room and turn the lights down just a little bit (makes sense to keep it brighter in the front- bank machine transaction, ppl looking for coatcheck tags etc.) I do for the most part think the renovataions done last winter look great and make sense :) system feels like home to me. |

i just got home from Lawler and Allegory and her boyfriend Michael's house party.
it was a great night! Lawler spun an amazing set, but i definately think he was better last time. everyone is disagreeing with me, but i liked it better last time. alot more "huge" tunes, more acidic, more epic, etc.
this one was good, but the things that bugged me about the night was matt's colleridge REALLY slow opening set (what happend matt? you were soooooooo good last time!), steve's slow opening and the over abundance of classic house with cheese vocals at the end. i know that's a Lawler trademark, and I do like it, but i think he just over did it this time.
i got ANOTHER Lawler shirt from John!! thanks so much man, these shirts are like my prized posessions now! i like this shirt a lot better than the other one though! it says "Steve Lawler" on the back with big letters, the other one didn't. both awesome shirts tho!!
thanks again to Allegory, and all the other people I met at the after party! i'd love to party with you guys again. |
