OK So my GF Annie and I have been working on this track on and off for a few months in our limited spare time and it's finally all come together. She's been singing jazz for years and we wanted to experiment and see how her voice would fit a trance track. Since I've been writing tracks for a few years and she's into audio production herself (radio broadcasting to be more specific) so it seemed like a good match. We recorded her on radio station microphones, so the quality should be pretty good.
Plz give some feedback on the production itself, as well as the vocals.
And HERE'S the link for the track! |

| good stuff.. but the mastering is all wrong.. the lyric is about 3 db too loud.. and the rest of the track is 6db too soft.. a bit too much FX on the lyric as well.. but not much... |

I agree with alanzo. The Vocal is kinda tempting to cover the song.
I like the buildup and style u got there. Cheers. Good job. |

It's great to hear some original vocal trance here, well done guys! I definitely agree with the mixing of the vocals, it is a little bit loud, although i like the production on the vocals, they sound lush.
The arrangment is really cool too, I love the strings in the breakdown, and that bubbly little synth line coming in softly behind it.
Just a tip for writing vocal lines, which applies to any style of music : be careful when splitting up single-syllable words into two distinct notes.
For example:
"you made my heart so-ar"
"i couldn't ask for anything mo-re"
Since nobody pronounces "soar" and "more" in two syllables, it sounds unnatural to sing those words spread over two distinct notes. It may be melodically better to have two notes there; either try singing those words just on one note and see if it sounds less awkward, or choose different (two syllable) words perhaps?
I really wish my girlfriend could sing :) |

Yea I guess she's a little loud there lol... I'll fix it up and re-upload it. I've never done vocals before... so I really wasn't sure about how loud to make them.
And yea the lyrics are and melodically sometimes awkward but meh... we didn't put ANY effort into them at all. Neither me nor Annie has any lyrical/poetic talent whatsoever so meh... next time we do a track we'll find some decent lyrics from somewhere else.
The whole 2-syllable 1-word vocal thing is just something Annie does. She's a jazz vocalist and in jazz, it's very common and part of the stylistic elements. Perhaps it doesn't suit trance as much.
About there being too much echo... I gave her lots of echo for a stylistic thing... I think the only reason it's so overpowering is because it's too (comparatively) loud. Maybe when the vocals are a bit quieter and the rest of the track is a bit louder, it will sound better.
Thanks for all the comments guys! |

Great job here ... glad we still have some guys not afraid to put out the vocal stuff... when done right, I always like vocal trance best!
About the syllable thing (so-ar)... I dont think this seems unnatural in this song.
The trance tune is actually better than the vocals, although they both lend themselves to this song and make it stronger together...
Your girlfriend sounds a little to "sweet" though... the vocals just seem too girly and sweet... too ... syrupy.. I dunno..
Good work though!:D |

| Nice...the vocals sound very clean. It's cute you and your girly work music together :gsmile:. My girlfriend can't sing to save her life, haha. She can dance, but sing...NOT! Anyway, nice track there...keep up the good work. |

| It's EQed for presence, then I added 2 separate delays (I think one on 3/8ths and another on 2/4ths... something like that... I don't remember exactly) and some heavy duty reverb. No chorus added at all actually. I used Adobe Audition for the vocals. Good program :D |
