Conservative MP Cheryl Gallant is a FREAK

Here's YET ANOTHER example of backwards, small minded stupidity from a Tory/Alliance memeber who ought to be thrown out of the party...but why isn't she? Maybe because this mindset and behaviour doesn't offend the party nearly as much as it should...maybe because others share these views? If I were the party leader, this crazy ing bitch would have been history a long time ago:

"Tory MP says abortion same as killing by terrorists

OTTAWA (CP) — Conservative MP Cheryl Gallant is being quoted as saying there's no difference between abortion and the beheading of American contractor Nicholas Berg by terrorists in Iraq.

The comment may rekindle the smouldering abortion fire that has been licking around the Tory campaign for a week despite Stephen Harper's best efforts to snuff it.

He responded immediately from Calgary, saying he leans to neither extreme of the abortion debate and that the status quo isn't going to change.

"Abortion is going to go on one way or the other, and I think it's part of life, rightly or wrongly," he said. "I wouldn't say I like abortion, but I think abortion is a reality that is with us."

The Western Catholic Reporter, in an article on an anti-abortion rally on Parliament Hill last month, quotes Gallant as saying the world was horrified at Berg's murder, which was committed live on a Web site.

"She compared the killing to the abortions performed in Canada over 35 years and said it is `absolutely no different'," the article said.

"Cheryl Gallant is a very strong pro-life MP, and this is the rhetoric that the pro-life movement often uses," Harper said. ``It's their business. I don't think it's particularly effective in public opinion."

The article said Liberal MP Paul Steckle, co-chair of the all-party Parliamentary Pro-Life Caucus, also attended the rally and said that without the abortions performed over the last 35 years, Canada would have 3.5 million more people.

"So let's not go on killing those children who can become our future," he was quoted as saying.

Gallant was already in hot water for telling CTV News on Sunday that "caucus as a whole" wants to repeal Canada's new hate law protecting sexual orientation.

Harper also tried to defuse that Monday, saying that while he would like to see some amendments, he'll keep the law in place.

"I don't intend to repeal this legislation," he said. "I think it's perfectly reasonable to have these protections in law."

Gallant has a record of drive-by shoutings.

In June 2003, she apologized to the Commons after TV cameras caught her mouthing a common obscenity at Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham.

She had mouthed "F--- you," across the Commons floor during question period.

In 2001, she apologized to Graham for shouting a comment in the Commons that was interpreted as an anti-gay slur.

Harper has been extinguishing brushfires on abortion, gay rights and bilingualism for much of the campaign."

I met a crazy Conservative candidate today - she's running in my riding.

Helena Guergis. I normally have a tolerance for conservatives, but she was just a downright bitch to the other candidates at the meeting, and nobody was impressed.

I dunno... the Conservatives reek of hidden agenda to me.

^^^ HUGE hidden agenda.

that idiot Liberal MP Paul Steckle can go too...his words weren't much better.

And that Harper didn't even condemn her words...instead he says "Cheryl Gallant is a very strong pro-life MP, and this is the rhetoric that the pro-life movement often uses," Harper said. ``It's their business. I don't think it's particularly effective in public opinion."

Again, an opportunity to demonstrate that he won't condone radical craziness...but that wishy washy bastard Harper STILL can't take a stand. PATHETIC!

well, the Liberal MP here is outstanding. He has done an excellent job representing the interests of our region for 7 years. He was the strongest speaker there today.

But, I don't want to vote Liberal cuz of Martin... arrrgh... the voting system needs to be reformed.

For the first time ever I don't know who I should vote for. The Liberals don't deserve another term in office. Hate to see what would happen with my taxes if the NDP were to win (never would happen) and the Conservative's (Alliance) are full of these freaks.
I sure miss the PC's.

I guess the best we could hope for is a minority Conservative guvernment then these freaks would have to be kept in line.

If i were to base the NDP on one stupid candidate like say, Olivia Chow id say the NDP were all a bunch of stuck up hypocrites.

I agree this woman is an idiot... but that never stopped anyone from voting liberal a la Sheila Copps now did it?

Gay issue aside (I have no problems with homosexuals), anybody who votes for this "new" Conservative party is just plain STUPID. Either that, or they sure are selfish. I wouldn't even call them tories...the REAL tories didn't join the "canadian alliance in disguise."

Sure, let's have free votes on abortion and the death penalty...let's bring up issues that were SETTLED TWENTY ING YEARS OR MORE AGO. If Harper gets in, there is going to be voter discontent in Canada that will go far beyond what it is now against the Liberals. I really want to vote NDP, but voting for them is just handing Harper a vote.
