It has nothing to do with democracy...
What's the turnout to the general elections....50% or something...do you really think people will come out to vote for the judges??? Do regular people know much about them, about law, about anything really...???
They should be elected by their peers, by people who actually understand what they are doing...
Bush was elected democratically too...I bet YOU don't think he's good do you now? |

No i dont... but thats why the american people get to have their say in Novemeber.
If he were a judge they would be stuck with him for the next 30 years.. Thanks for proving my point! ;) |

They might still re-elect him...looks like he's still in the lead theoretically...
what's your beef with the judges anyway??? |
|

and if they do then thats who they choose. Are you suggesting that the only way to ensure a quality leader is by not having elections?
My problem with judges? Absolutely nothing if they are there just to interpret laws. But the person i answered to suggested that they should be the ones creating laws instead of having free votes in parliament. Thats what im objecting to here. |

Well a lot of parliament voters are morons anyways...
In any case it's never a perfect wold and it's never a win win situation, you can't make EVERYONE happy no matter what you do...but people electing judges is just...buh...I'm sorry but I have a lot more important and interesting things to do in life rather than studying laws and biographies of judges that may or may not have their own agendas...and even if they DO have their own agendas, voters will probabbly not know about them anyway |

Yeah...voters are idiots, MPs ("parliament voters") are morons...
Lets just do away with all forms of voting... I'll start by imposing myself as the new leader... You may call me "dear leader" or simply just fidel... |

If you can push an 8 hour speech with no papers or prepwork I'll gladly call you Fidel :stongue: |

I'd gladly take up the flag and run for world president! Who's on my side? j/k
Honestly debating politics is stupid because once they're elected they can do practically whatever they damn well please. Right now I'm voting for whoever lowers my taxes the most. |

I can't say I'm encouraged by any of the parties, but I will not be voting conservative because of a/ Harper's stance on war and b/ his attitude towards abortion and gay marriages.
All are extremely important to me. |

Harper would allow free votes on these issues. He has said himself that he doesnt agree with abortion and same sex marriage but that "its not for him to decide, its for the people of canada to decide"
I agree with democracy... the will of the people. |

| So basically he says is...I disagree with the people but I just REALLY REALLY want the job so pick me and i'll let you have it :p |

No... what he is saying is "im entitled to have my own beliefs and i wont hide them however i will still leave law up to the people to decide"
I think its a very honest way of appraoching these topics instead of hiding behind a vail of trying to be all things to all people. |
