Well hey, since it seems in fashion to throw the tag @ those on the right, let's see what the lefties have to contribute....
"Marriage is the union between men and women and has been that way since the beginning of time. It's meant to stay that way… anything else is not civilized. It's not acceptable."
(Janko Peric, Liberal MP, Toronto Star, August 3, 2003)
"Then what's next? Multiple marriages? Multiple spouses?"
(Tom Wappel, Liberal MP, London Free Press, May 24, 1999)
"And, I'm afraid, and I'm not the only one afraid of this, it could lead to mothers marrying sons and all kinds of things," Kilgour said."
(David Kilgour, Liberal MP, Montreal Gazette, December 8, 2003)
"All of these things are being cleared to create same-sex benefits as a means in which to bring about, I suspect, same sex marriage recognition throughout.… There is obviously an agenda being pursued (and) it's not one that I agree with."
(Dan McTeague, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Ottawa Citizen, November 4, 1999)
"[T]he definition of marriage is already clear in law in Canada as the union of two persons of the opposite sex. Counsel from my department have successfully defended, and will continue to defend this concept of marriage of court… I continue to believe that it is not necessary to change well-understood concepts of spouse and marriage to deal with any fairness considerations the courts and tribunals may find."
(Anne McLellan, Deputy Prime Minister, Letter, April 24, 1998)
Liberal MP Tom Wappel told the press that there's an "unofficial agenda" in the Justice Department to legalize gay and lesbian marriages. "I don't agree that a marriage can be or should be anything but a marriage between one man and one woman," he said.
(Liberal MP, Toronto Star, May 27, 1999)
Face it kids, politicians are for the most part the same. Please research your MPs in your riding and find out what you're getting... some of these people are just plain scary, no matter what colour their
campaign sign is. Just playing Devil's advocate..... |

well i agree with most of what they're saying. Marriage is a union between members of the opposite sex and that is the natural order of things.
it doesn't make them a homophobe when they're stating that same sex marriage is wrong because naturally, same sex marriage IS wrong specially when u superimpose it on a belief such as christianity. Marriage is a sacred sacrement that takes place in church envolving opposite genders and when homosexuals start to get married in churches, it defies that sacrement.
i am not a homophobe cuz i don't hate homosexuals but all i'm saying they don't have the right to get married in a church. They can get married in city hall.
the other thing is going back to the natural order, anything that defies the natural order brings chaos. Marriage should be a right to straight people. Marriage is defined as a union between opposite genders as i said b4. Any change wont make it marriage. Again, homosexuals can hook up but the defention of marriage can not be used on them. There is a more general word that can be used and it's called eloping. That is the union of anything with anything. Animals to humans, mothers to sons, monkeys to goats, u name it. When homosexuals 'marry' they're not really getting married, they're getting eloping. That i dont mind. What i mind is homosexuals getting married in the Church just because they think they have the right. as i said, no they don't have the right because relegion has the right to keep the faith and sacrements the way they are. Government can not under any circumstances force the Church to change its sacrements. |

Like, say, the invention of fire, the domestication of the first herd animals, seed cultivation, irrigation, the building of permanent settlements, cities, internal combustion engines, antibiotics, birth control, exchanging electronic information over little copper wires.... |

i think you should rethink your catholic brain-washing there Pierre. you really think it matters, who is married to who? i think they should be allowed to get married. there is more benefits to a marriage then just living together. they are not fighting for the right to be together, they are fighting for a right to be considered a couple, to share health benefits, to buy property together, to share income taxes, not just for a right to say they are married. |

Catholic Brain washing??? My point exactly.
Marriage is religious event that the state decides to recognize and give benefits to couples who are married. I said it before and I'll say it again, Marriage was initiated by all kinds of religions. It is a sacred sacrament. Now, if the gov't wants to allow gays to get married, they have to come up with a civil union which only allows them to have those financial benefits they seek. No religion under God should allow same sex marriage. I would hate to see what would happen if the gov't would force these marriages in the church.
I am against same sex marriage in religion but dont care if they have some type of civil union and get some benefits. They shouldt be allowed to adopt though..... |

i see your point, but there is far greater sins a lot of straight people do, and they're forgiven and still get to marry in a church... whats homosexuality.. its just another sin.
The only flaw with homosexuality is that they cannot reproduce, so imagine there is a straight couple who got married and decided never to have children.. whats the difference between them and a gay/lesbian couple? |
