Ermmm what kind of swearing is that lol. I hope you don't use it in arguments ^^
But as two people stated Goddammit is actualy a curse, a request to have something damned by god.
Most swearings find their origins in curses. New ones like F*ck You don't realy mean anything if you think about it.
Jezus Christ is mostly yelled out of amazement. Just like the witnesses to Jezus is his resurrection might have been amazed aswell. Another explanation might be that when people feel they cannot control a situation, that they call upon the divine intervention of Jezus.
Most cultures have strong language involving curses. Sometimes refering to diseases or death (ex: drop death) and at other times to members of the family (ex: ya momma).
Swearing can also refere to acts that are seen as immoral or religiously/socialy unacceptable (ex: MoFo, Son Of A B*tch (actualy Witch), Bast*rd, Your so gay, sissy)
Also animals are frequently used but that's usualy more out of mockery than insult (ex: pig, fat cow, lapdog, chicken) |
its just a sound, a call for hatred as some may say rofl
or a simple meh will do it. |

| I actually make it a point not to say it. Not out of respect for Christians (limey bastards), but because it'd be somewhat hypocritical of me to use it. |

I think its more colloquially used as "God Damn ____"
you want him to damn something. |
yea, that's what I was going to say |

I do it more because some Catholic girl scolded me for saying "G.D." when I said it once. I kept doing it and within a week I had her saying it on a regular basis. That was good...
...GODDAMNIT!!! |

| Belief in God doesn't have to be Judeo-Christian, and as far as I know not all theistic religions condemn the use of "the lord's name in vain". Plenty of people believe in a God without subscribing to any established religion, and may therefore feel free to blaspheme, covet their neighbours' ass or do whatever else is forbidden in various religious texts. |

I especially feel free to covet my neighbour's wife's ass.
