Thoughtful reaction for girlfriend's new haircut needed desperately

So my drama lies on how touchy girls are (specially when it comes to their looks AND when they're on "those days"), how transparent I am (I wish I was a good liar at times) and the unexplainable attraction between girls and scissors.
True, I reckon my girlfriend should do whatever floats her boat when it comes to vainity (if she feels like cutting her hair, or piercing her nose... it's hers after all) - I like her the way she is. However, today she sent me an SMS saying "Hey, I cut my hair. It's very short now, somewhat like yours" (picture of my hair in case you're curious... it's longer than what it is in the avatar). I was obviously surprised. She had very beautiful long hair and, transparent as I am, I will look a bit shocked when I see her, no matter how much I think she should do whatever she wants with her hair... and I know that any "sad" reaction from me will hurt her feelings, as she just wanted to look pretty because we'll go out to some special place sunday, to celebrate our 6th month together.
What to say, what to do? My only choice so far is to avoid eye contact at first and tell her I like her no matter what. Anyone's got a better idea? Anyone else been through it? Should I cut my hair back to what it is in the avatar as a "payback"? (I was growing my hair because she thought it was cute... but I reckon this would just start a stupid little war between us, and it's not worth it as we've never fought anyway).

hey girls with short hair rock! it's kinda hard to pull off though, they need a like some spunk and attitude for it. So it might not be a bad ting that she cut it, i'd say reserve judgement till you see it, and retalianting by cutting your hair is just dumb lol.

Blazed it, she's not really that sort of "attitude girl"... if it looks great, great! The problem is... if it doesn't, I'll have to look like it is, because if I look like it isn't and I find out it is, because it is what it doesn't... well, I think you got it :toothless
