Beckham? (pg. 2)

England need beckham...I hope everyone, including Beckham, realises that. But he needs to play better...I don't know what his problem was in this tournament, whether it was a nagging injury or what, but he was piss poor most of the time. We need him, but it should be VERY clear to Sven, or his successor, that Becks is NOT the man to be taking England's penalties....and certainly NOT the first penalty in a shootout. He obviously cannot deal with the pressure....three in a row missed is not acceptable at this level. Step aside and let Rooney do them from now on.

I laughed so hard when Becks missed his penalty.. Don't think he will be shooting many penalties after this tournament...

People will always miss penalties, that's a given in life, it's the guts of a man who's missed his last 2 to stand up first & take another one that impresses me

Beckham can just kiss my ass.ing overated piece of .

Did u see the look on his face when he missed that penalty. He look at the penalty spot like it wasnt his fault that he missed.

LOL!!!! He actually look disgusted at the spot and not himself!!!

Well I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses cos I'm not, but did you see the state of that spot? Was a ing disgrace, he pointed it out & all the other shooters after him ended up jumping around on it for several seconds, flattening it out before placing the ball, looked like someone had dug a hole there (and beckham probably wished he could jump in it.. lol, sorry bad taste :D )... not saying he would've definitely scored if it was in good condition but i think he would've at least got it on target.

I know about the condition of the spot kick.

Still, its no excuse TO BE ALL PISSED AT THE PENALTY SPOT.He should have took it like a man and be apolegetic and blame himself(which he did in the end)

2ndly, even if the ball moved or the ground somehow was unstable..he still should have hit the target.I've taken penalties before and I've never ballooned it that high even when I miss.

Many retired footballers have looked at the way beckham hits the ball when he takes penalties and all of them agree it isnt the best way to score penalties. He puts too much body weight on his left leg making him unstable.Maybe it works for his free kicks and crossings but taking penalties is a whole different story.

And lastly, stop trying to defend this guy.Hes cheated on his wife, he has tons of money, he could have any girl in this world..even with that squeaky ass voice of his...The last thing he really needs is ur pity...cause frankly.. I think he couldnt care less.

Still, theres no chance in hell he should to be labeled "world class" let alone england captain. That job should be given to Steven Gerrard!

He really drives himself hard and puts pressure on himself to perform, thats what makes him such a great player but also brings nerves in situations like that - look at zidane vomiting on the pitch before his against england.

that was cose of the heat though not cose he was nervous

As they say, Beckham is the best model amongst the football players and the best football player amongst the models.

Do you think that Real Madrid really needed him as a right wing or as a TV ratings boost?

Ruud Van Nistelrooy missed 3 in a row for Man Utd this season, but gained his confidence back and people have forgotten about it.

For 2 of Beckham's 3 misses he slipped. It sounds like an excuse but it's just very bad luck. It's difficult to put a penalty that high even if you try, his standing foot sank into the sand while the ball probably did lift just before he kicked it. Against Turkey he slipped badly and fell over as he kicked the ball, it also went high over the bar. I don't doubt that the pressure in both situations got to him, and might have contributed to him slipping, but I think it's mostly just a case of bad luck. I think he will overcome this, although obviously it would be wise to consider another penalty taker.
