| seriously, I don't know what the hype is all about . . . they're super expensive and they have more knobs than usual. Why would you achieve better control? Do most big-name DJs use rotaries? |

| It's about sound quality. Rotaries give a better sound quality |

| Instead of having upfaders, they have knobs. As far as I know that's the only part of the mixer that differs, but I may be wrong. |

look at this problem as a practical issue. Heres whut i found. WHen i was mixing, sometimes I needed to adjust the volume a very tiny amount. Precise control over the volume is not a trait of upfaders. With rotary knobs, you get more control and thus more precise control of volume. Therefore i sometimes i find myself tweaking the gaines instead of using the faders.
Conclusion: it is harder to make small adjustments with upfaders than it is with rotaries. Thats why some ppl prefer rotaries |

| Control is one of the big reasons the other is sound quality most of the rotary mixers have better sound quality. |

| im not sure about the statement of having better sound quality. this isnt because of the rotary faders, its because the mixer is just better quality in general. i very much douct that the rotarty version of the Alan & Heath Xone 92 is better in sound quality then the fader version. |

Faders bring along a loss of sound quality...
It's true that rotaries give more control but I think it's alot harder to do fast changes. |

| Rotary's are only more accurate if your mixer has short channel faders like the 45mm that most have. Hard to say that it is more accurate than 100mm faders. |

rotary mixers give you more precise control over your mix
making it easier to pull off those long seamless mixes
which is why it's more popular than fader mixers among house djs |

| couldn't you just mix with the gain kobs if you were that obsessive about "sound quality". |

I went to see Tiesto at the aria here in montreal June 11 and there was a setup in the dj boot with 3 turn table and a rotary mixer. I think it was the Allen & Heath XONE V6 :: Audiophile Rotary Club Mixer. It look a lot like this to say it was exactly that I'm pretty sure.
And right beside not even in the center on the left there was 2 turntable 2 cdj and a pionner mixer, must be the 600 and tiesto used that all night.
Right after tiesto there was Mistress Barbara witch is from canada so maybe some people here don't know her and she used the center setup with the rotary mixer. So I guess it more what you like best. |
