Wish to know why people disrespect Oakenfold nowadays

I've only listened to trance for a year and a bit and I really like Oakenfold's older stuff. I was thinking of going to his June 26th show, but opted not to due to ticket prices. I keep seeing negative feedback about some of live sets. What makes so many people hate him nowadays? Can someone shed light on this, for I have very little knowledge when it comes to live performances and stuff.

they are haters, oakie was for a while but he seems to be back in form imo.

I saw him in Nov. 2003, and he really didn't seem into it at all. D:Fuse spun before him and was amazing, but Oakenfold definitely wasn't what I expected. But yeah, his older stuff is what got me hooked on EDM in general.... great stuff.

this thread says a lot. it's a good read.

i still love Oakenfold (w/ the exception of Bunkka and that ). i have never seen him spin live, but i'm going to see him at Summerfest here in Milwaukee tomorrow. i think i'll be able to form a better opinion of him after that.

I heard Starry Eyed Surprise on a Volvo commercial.

Oh and Swordfish.

And his pathetic ticket prices.

Looks like someone is only in it for money these days.

Those are my opinions.

actually i liked starry eyed surprise...it was pretty good. not trance, but still good.

people hate oakey a lot because of bunnka, but once again oakenfold was just leading the pack because look at the artist albums that have tried to follow oakenfold...tiesto's just be...pvd's reflections. they all are a lame atempt at immitating the success of oak. whether you like it or not...but we can't stop liking them can we?

i thought that each of those albums had a few good songs, but if people are gonna hate on oakenfold because he made bunnka...an album that has proven to be the first in a new trend in dance music..then you must also dislike the others.

i didn't heard the entire bunkka, just the singles, but if the rest of the tracks are like that, then there is a clear difference between it and armin's/tiesto's/pvd's albums! bunkka is cheesy mainstream pop music, at least they kept it in the EDM field, not jumping into the MTV bandwagon. gotta agree that they all were though.

OK - so if you're compairing Oakey's singles with Tiesto's then barring Starry eyed suprise, Oakeys efforts blow Tiesto's out of the water. If ever there was - as you put it - 'cheesy mainstream pop music' the it's gotta be 'love comes again' - now don't get me wrong it's a catchy tune but that rift is (dare I say it) verging into dj sammy/atb/sash teritory.

Sure, Starry Eyed Suprise is not trance, and as a result is sure to get slammed by certain people who only enjoy 'their' type of music. But then Bunkka in whole was'nt meant to be a EDM album. It was about oakenfold experimenting and spreading his wings a little - it was never once pitched as an EDM album and due to that fact it was bound to be slated by those blind to other genres!

Please - this talk of Oakenfold selling out really does piss me off. imo starry eyed suprise and love comes again are equally commerical (hell they get played back to back here in the uk on our main national radio station).

tiesto's mix of adagio for strings is ok :p

yeah i see that they're both very commercial, i just think that bunkka wasn't "a new trend in dance music".. at least not a good trend at all

forgot to say in the previous post that i still respect oakie though for all the good things that he did to the scene

yeah just like Lucid said, i havent seen him play live yet (until summerfest tomorrow) and although, in my opinion starry eyed suprise sucks along with most of the bunkka CD i think it was kindof an experimentation album. I still have nothing but respect for him. You cant hate the legends even if they "experiment" with mainstream pop and fail. That just means they are meant to stick with what they are great at.

He is about as mainstream as you can get, like you said youve only been listening to trance for a bit, and youre already interested in oakenfold. He was the first dj i listened to while knowing that the kind of music he was spinning was called trance. Alot of EDM fanatics feel the need to bash djs that are mainstream, and/or really popular with newbies. This makes them feel like they know alot about the music, and are much too wise to like the same dj that a person who has just started being interested in EDM likes.

Needless to say alot people strongly dislike him for good reasons, i really dont like him because most of his new stuff is simply pretty bad. Plus he once had the whole EDM culture/industry in the palm of his hand, and he didnt do much good with it in the later part.

For the most part youll find the people who severely bash oakenfold are the same people who flame on pvd, tiesto, buuren, and corsten fans.
