For or Against Animal Testing?

okay, i have written an essays on animal testing for my english class and an argumental debate.
i'd like to know what people on TA thinks about the cruelty of animal experimentation.
personally, i think it is wrong and barabaric. there are much better alternatives that can replace the cruel torture of animals. we are also unintentionally supporting animal testing by funding it through our taxes.

| Yes it is better than exposing humans to the experiments, but there are much better alternatives nowadays that are much cheaper, effective, and humane such as using single celled organisms and their reactions to the experiment. Animal testing is now very outdated and it needs to be shut down. |

| I'm all for testing stuff on lab mice and dirty rodents but that's it. |

| But most drugs have to go thru trials on humans in the last phase anyway. Usually starts with lab mice then modified and then put into rats then humans are tested. That medicine for ya. |

Animal testing for medicinal purposes:
Yes it's true humans are lastly tested, but they are aware of the situation and are doing it for money or are in desperate need for the new medicine due to illness. However animals are not in control of the situation and they are definately not enjoying it.
Animal Testing for War and other reasons:
One of the most useless forms of animal testing. hundreds of mammals including dogs, primates, cattles, were used to test the aftermath of the atomic bomb. they were surrounded by the explosion site and blown to death, just to see the results in their respiratory systems due to the explosions. animals who weren't dead, eventually faced the same fate by constant explosions.
another cruel and pointless examples were the eye irritancy test, performed on thousands of rabbits only to test women's make-up. rabbits were forced to open their eyes, while the make-up products were placed in eyes of the rabbits. |
