okay, i have written an essays on animal testing for my english class and an argumental debate.
i'd like to know what people on TA thinks about the cruelty of animal experimentation.
personally, i think it is wrong and barabaric. there are much better alternatives that can replace the cruel torture of animals. we are also unintentionally supporting animal testing by funding it through our taxes.
here is a website that might convince some of you that are for animal testing (DO NOT CLICK IF YOU'RE THE FAINT OF HEART).

Yeah, I'm all against testing on plants too. They also have feelings.
And those poor test tubes, the crap they have to bear.
Well its just not right!
I think you should start a march Trancer85 and I'll join you. |

For, with animal welfare in mind.
Are you going to be the one to test these new products? |

| Definitely against, for stupid like testing cosmetics. For the testing of medicines that could be a cure for cancer and the like, perhaps it is better to sacrifice some animals for the welfare of humanity. Although, humans are pretty self-centered and in the grand scheme of things rather useless, so...who knows? |

It's easy enough for people to have an opinion on this, but how many of you use soap, shampoo, deoderant etc. that has been tested on animals. My guess would be most of you...
I can't really say I'm for animal testing, but I'm definitely not against it. |

Unfortunately thats true, I'm against animal testing for most products, if its for a real benefit, like curing a disease then even though its sick, I have to say maybe its worth it, but like testing new products out on animals so women can have a new kind of eyeliner is ed up, and we call ourselves civilized. |

| You need to test medications on animals with a complex CNS...single celled organisms are no comparison. |

Samples of animal and human cells can be used instead of direct animal testing. http://www.colipa.com/alternatives.html#06
Nerveless organisms such as yeasts, for example has been known to have same reactions to certain chemicals as humans. Scientists have used that knowledge and used yeasts in place of animals.
Regardless of these advantages, direct animal testing still goes on.
Anybody else got opinions? |

So what if a medication causes fatal seizures in animals but doesn't cause any problems in singled-celled organisms? |
