As most people know i've been on ta for an awful long time, but as Luke will confirm, i've never done anything useful production wise, and this is also very bad, but i'd like some pointers on where I'm going wrong, before you review this, I'd like to say about -

I know the percs aren't very complex, I only spent 2 hours on this remix last nite/this afternoon

I know some of the sounds are ty, but i'd still like ideas/suggestions please :)

EDITED

I've had a mess with it some more, and have come up with something else, some levels are out a lot, but here's the newer version, again advice is much welcomed :)

Right click pleas :) 192kbps

oi mate, im impressed.

ive heard a few of your other attempts before, and tbh they left as lot to be desired, and stuff was a bit unorganised, and you seemed to lose one idea then go into sumthing else that sounded completely different.
but this sounds really not ba at all mate.. still sounding a little amateury, but by far the best thing youve done, liking the acidic bassline, very mysterious, and i like that in a track. nice thundery kicks and fitting percs. the only thing i feel, is that it sounds like there should be sumthing a little more happeneing mid track, but then again, its a dark sounding tune, so i guess this isnt really a problem, but overall, id give this a 7/10 but 10/10 for effort mate, keep up the good work :)

solid kick (y)

perc aint that bad, you just need a few congas and such, and i think a fatter hihat.

bass is cool , but needs a bit of low frequencies, sounds flat.

the saw synth can use a bit more delay and reverb , maybe some release also.

the psy kinda synth is cool.

break is mint, breakbeat (y)

after the break wiht breakbeat i expected to explode with some fat synth..major bummer.

am very suprised man, after i heard uhm the home remix, this is BIIIIIIIG step towards the good way.

i agree with [N]ûk|êû[Z] 7/10

things you could work on, add some nice fx during the track, and i say let it explode with a hard lead after the break.

good luck

Fahad.

thanks mate, and also to Jay

I've done a bit of adding now, but won't upload just yet, added a gated pad in the background of some of the pad section, just to try & make it sound less thin, and added another acidy lead to beef that up, but I will be looking to fix the hats/add some more stuff, and have a mess with other lead sounds to try & make it explode more as you said :) not bad for me in fruity tho :p

any other advice is also appreciated, gives me advice from people who know a lot more than I do :D

I like this, cool how you used the Nathan Fake Outhouse style percusion.

Needs a little more work but this could be great.

I've never heard outhouse :p

I'm about as far as I can come on it atm due to the nature of my PC which is particularly crappy:p

I'll deffo try a bit more if needed, but it might be a while :(
Mr.Mystery
Well it certainly has your "trademark sound" :p

The bass distorts with the beat.
It sounds extremely dry.
The percs create no drive whatsoever.
The changes are way too abrupt, at least put a crash or a fill in there.
Complete lack of anything but the obvious lead and drums make the tune sound hollow.
The new synth at 4:30 is terrible, and not only because it's waaaaaaaaaay too loud.

I would like to say this was a step to the right direction for you but unfortunately it isn't. I can't get into this at all. Sorry.

thanks Nik, I appreciate how you can grab a guy and kick him so hard in the balls that they come out of his mouth :)

it's the kinda advice i need however :)

:stongue: that had me laughing..

Right Ian, this isn't a bad attempt. Here's some improvements I think you can work on.

Throughout the track, things feel too static and as mentioned before... It lacks drive.

To remedy this, you need create thicker percussion layers. You have only a very weak hi-hat flick pattern that seems dominated by the rest of your percussion. Don't underestimate the power of those hihats in giving your tune the energy it needs!

Secondly: transitions. Hard to master but can make the difference if pulled off well. As Nik mentioned, as the track changes and new elements are brought in, a reverse cymbal/crash combination is a good method. FX can also be used to bridge the gap. A good example of where things could be improved is around the the 6:20 mark where your main synth just kinda stops. It sounds too abrupt!

Synth wise, things are quite good. There is a certain dry/rawness about them however, you need to mess with delay/reverb to give things a bit more flow. Bass needs to be taken down an octave IMO. And err, the 4:30 synth... Think the volume needs to be turned down just a teensy bit :p

Not bad though, but alot of room for improvement! :)

thanks mike, that's v helpful :D
