Hey guys,

I bought a DVD Writer in May from aria.co.uk, its a Lite On LDW 811S DVD Writer, my sister recently has been trying to burn some songs to normal CD in audio cd format to use as music for a mate's 30th birthday party, well, she has Verbatim and TDK make discs, everytime she burns a CD using either of those brands it wont play in ANY cd player, any idea what the is going on? I've never had verbatim or tdk problems with my old cd writer I had before I got the dvd writer, someone please help me, I am at loss, I have the latest firmware update for the Lite On and I also have the latest nero version (which I purchased) - any ideas whats going wrong guys?

please help me, I am at loss and my sister is ed off cause she has wasted like 5 or 6 cd's now... :(

Cheers,
DJ_Hailstone
Are you sure your DVD writer can write also CDs? I mean maybe its DVD-only writer.

edit: I´ve checked it, it can write also CDs. But I have no idea what is wrong. Maybe you can try other program, for example Feurio.

perhaps shes not burning it right...not finalising the cd or something?

as some cd players can play finalised cds and some refuse to, depending on how old/new the cd player is.

also the audio format that u burn it in is also a factor

This could be the issue, most cd players wont recognize a disc that is still "open." Also, burners are picky sometimes, for example my cd burner really liked sony and tdk cd-r's, but I always got high error ratios with imation or fuji.

hmm, okay thanks guys, just that Verbatim and TDK are meant to be very good makes... perhaps she is burning at too high a speed for audio cd burning capabilities? she burns the audio cd's at burn speed of 40x :S too fast ?
KilldaDJ
that is well too fast.

try burning at 12x-16x

that should solve the problem, its just that the cache runs out because ur burning it too fast
Simcut
well, she tried burning at 12x and still had the same problem, ANY IDEAS guys? :(

I use Nero mate, I will let you know the settings when I get back home from work

1. make sure that you are set for DMS and not PIO in the device manager.

2. try Exact Audio Copy (EAC), it's free, and is the actually one of the best burner. See if you can burn at least one good CD with EAC.

for 1. where do I check that? I am on Windows XP and went into the Device Manager but I'm not sure where to go to check what settings I have... in terms of the DMS and PIO stuff.

2. I'll give EAC a try soon mate, just that I paid for Nero full license :/ I actually bought the damn thing :(

Just a note. I know with some DVD/CD type writers you actually have to buy the specific Audio CD's. All CD Writers whether they be PC or cd standalones will write to standard blank cds but some will only burn correctly if they are the dearer cd's.

I know its silly but i've had to do that before. I used to burn everything onto cds that come in a pack of 50 but with certain hardware i need the audio specific ones.

That might not be the case but its worth a shot. You can buy them singular from places like asda for about £0.90 each.

Let us know. :)

EDIT: if you need owt IT wise just msn us. :)
