Why all the hate in music?

I was just noticing today how much people love what they love, but for the most part hate everything and everyone else. For example, people that like rock tend to hate anything electronic, people who like rap hate pretty much anything else, people who like trance hate house or DnB etc etc. Its tough to make such a broad generalization i know and yes i know some people like everything, but for the most part everyone is so very clingy. Has anyone else noticed this? From my perspective i can find something to like about any form of music, from classical to hip-hop, though my first love is and always will be trance. I just wonder why it is people dont realize music doesnt divide us, rather it connects us. From a more personal note for the most part i HATE rap, hate it hate it hate it. I love the beats, but i cant stand the vocals, nor the notion that self worth lies not in intelligence, integrity, family or anything really, but how much money you have and how well you flaunt it. That makes me sick. Its degrading society and i wish it would dissapear. Thats just my opinion of course :) And also for example people on this board are against sharing music? DId i get the right gist of it? Thats bull! WIthout file sharing i wouldnt know what any djs sound like! I would never have heard TE2000 and fallen in love with trance in the first place! We dont all live in holland, we cant all walk down the street and see tiesto, ive seen him 4 times by luck mostly, but again to the point without file sharing how many of us would have even been introduced to trance? Without it how would i have heard all the great live mixes ive heard over the years? ANd the artists benefit because people like me download a mix and then want to see them live. I dont get it.

barely nobody on here is against sharing music, but we are not allowed to talk fully open about it cause the RIAA would go after swamper's ass (swamper = the site admin)

Filesharing Deemed Legal In Canada

Why all the hate in music? Dont u mean why all the hate in the world?
Music, like all forms of art and media, only reflects the people and the values (or lack thereof) of society.

Luckily rather few people are killed over music related racism. I'd start worrying about it after we fix hate related to race, religion, sexual preference...you know all that other stuff. (not that i see this possibly happening...ever.)

Oh personally, I don't mind listening to other genres of music.. I just don't.

I try to respect other peoples taste of music, but there's is stuff I just can't stand to hear. But, of course, it's not just about the music itself but also what you associate the music with. I, for example, really dislike metal, punk etc. Although I detest the music itself I find the culture unpleasant and weird, you know that typical clothing & make-up, right? I don't like it.

Then there's this unavoidable psychology aspect about uniformness: some people tend like and dislike certain types of music because "everyone else" does it.

It's a very interesting subject.

The elitism in music is there for the same reason secret societies still exist today. People want to feel superior to their peers, and if music is an important part of their life, then they'll take that avenue. It's really no different with any other subject matter...you get the same attitudes with people whose lives revolve around cars (company vs. company), coding (language vs. language), food (a rather large arena, but what comes first to mind is cooking with fat vs. no fat), etc....

It's a part of humanity, at least in today's society, and it's just something you're going to have to learn to put up with.

So true. You encounter that elitism behaviour all the time if various formes. Some people always try to present themselves as having the best and most unique taste, and are not shy about letting everyone else know about it.

Absolutely. As shameful a lowmind mentality as it is -- like being the Queen or King of high school and later finding out the world is a MUCH bigger place and life doesn't revolve around the transient years of adolescence -- you quickly come to realize that there's an upside: there may be chinstroking snobs, but that doesn't stop you from expressing your own views as to what you enjoy. Take that empty wineglass from the elitist, fill it with your own personal brand of confidence, and splash it back in his face. Find out what you REALLY enjoy, not the hypocrisy that comes from someone who is supposedly "against the conformist mainstream" yet someone who tries to impose his tastes on you because of some deep-seated insecurity he won't be bold enough to admit.

It's been stated here numerous times, it's simple:

I like what I listen to what I like.

Speaking of, I see a lot of Emperor's New Clothes scenarios: people who were earlier critical of something who will jump on the bandwagon later, and a lot of digital wankery that "passes" (not even barely) for music criticism, but is instead an unbridled cauldron of vitriolic hate and blah-blah-blahs. I usually tend to stick to the positive side of things and wax on about records that I like. Music's such a luxury, and I'm keeping my ears open. If I revert to technosnob form like a vinyl-munching werewolf, feel free to whup me with a silver 12". Really, I'd prefer to spend time with a loved one, listening to music we enjoy. :D

I like trance, techno, noisecore, Avril Lavigne, etc.

This site is so huge and powerful (in terms of fans and members) that I guarantee, if it wasn't for TA and us talking about and sharing music, record sales (at least in the electronica genre) would be lower than what they are today - so the RIAA can kiss my ass. And if they do decide to go after Swamper just because some us here want to simply talk about file-sharing - which is NOT illegal - I'll fully fund Swamper's defence and fight those guys to the end, as I'm sure many, many other loyal TA's would be willing to do (well, whatever they can anyway :toocool: )

Ok that was off topic -back to you folks! :D
