TOTA: Producers List
View this Thread in Original format
Espresso
This has been on my mind for a while...
(i know there's a production studio forum, i'm looking for fellow TOTA producers though)

I'm interested to know the following:

1- Who's into EMD production only? (DJs/producers don't count)
2- What style/genre(s) do you produce?
3- Level of expertise (Pro, amature, rookie, hobby producer, etc)
4- What gear/software do you use?
5- What's your influences/producers who inspire you?
6- Comments

all replies are much appreciated :toocool:

lol Jeff
i've seen that thread and read every single post, but unfortunately that thread is more about posting mp3 and productions than producers themselves (e.g software they use, etc).

so it's not what i'm looking for, unless LKD adds the other questions to the list ( <---- big doubt)
a little patience and hopefully we can have a comprehensive list ...

I've gotten into it a bit more. I sort of fooled around with a four track and some sequencing software in early 2001.

I'm mainly using a Korg micro and starting to get into using Cubase SX (so then that puts me into the rookie category). Used Fruity for a bit but it just doesn't cut it anymore.

As far as styles go I'm still very much just trying to create sound and beats. I've tried to mimic styles (or to try and make a track within a particular genre) but its pretty hard. I'm more approaching it from a musician's point of view then a producer's.

I don't think that there's really any producer or edm artist out there that's really inspiring (I suppose Air or Infected Mushroom, both after seeing them live and pushing the limits of a live set). I think the fact of having a classical pianist play a line/melody and then sequence it live was pretty jaw dropping (technically not very difficult, but performance wise it was remarkable). Air mostly for the coolness factor of playing live. They definitely arent geeks behind the laptop.

More what I can get out of it is listening to how a track was made and respecting that craftmanship. I was listening to Fat of the Land the other day and the production on a lot of the tracks was very forward thinking. Very interesting ideas. And the basses were very dirty/clever. Attention to detail.

I would say the hardest part about edm or electronic music in general is composing a groove. That intangible ability to make something that makes your head nod and go "yeah this is a banging track" or something to dance to.

A lot of it amounts to element juggling.
I'm listening to Tiesto's remix of sweet surrender (prob not the best choice for production). And its interesting the layering that he did. And playing with the vocal track (very very subtle). And there's, far be it for me to say, but Tiesto actually has a sense of musical composition (the backing strings arrangement behind the vocals). And I dont mean to plug Sarah here but G&D's remix of Fallen is another (stronger) example of good production. They are definitely there for a groove.

some song on a judge jules set is the reason why i make music ;)

I've been producing for almost two years. I've only used the Reason softstudio for production, and T Rack for mastering during that time. However, in the very near future, I'm moving from PC to Mac so that I can take advantage of Logic Audio! I'm very excited.

I produce melodic progressive with a taste of funk. check out www.trevorkay.tk for my songs, available for download.

My most recent tune is available for download, and reviewed here in trance addict amateur producers forum:

1) Mesa don't understand question.
2) Various forms of Trance, from progressive to tech.
3) I have a few tracks signed to some known labels, does that make me a pro?
4) All software on PC, hardware is so overrated!
5) Too many to list, but here are some: Armin, Tiesto, Hiver & Hammer, Thrillseekers, Above & Beyond, Lemon 8, Push.
6) Hi!
DJ_Elyot
1) I produce!!! WOOOT. Click my sig for a thread... and check the links to a couple of my tracks.

2) Trance, but also some wierd proggy stuff and ambient. I've also done vocal with my GF singing.

3) Let's call me a hobby producer. My music isn't signed but apparently one of my tracks is being put on a charity CD for cancer or something like that.

4) Modplug tracker, Adobe Audition, and some assorted crap for making samples.

5) All good trance producers... it's all good... impossible to list.

6) HEY!!! Check my stuff out!
