well, here is the gist of the situation...
they are a travel company, like travelocity or expedia. but right now, when a person goes online and thinks they are "booking" a hotel, trip, ticket, or package through this company, what they are actually doing is just sending the company an auto-generated email that says "hey i want this." you dont even know if you really GOT it, or if they even HAVE it. but you are led to beleive that you do.
so that is the first thing that sucks. they have about 20 different dbs, and none of them are integrated... so once they find a hotel, they have to enter all this crap into one db, then they have to enter it into another db on some remote location . they have to do this also with credit cards. so when you enter your credit card on their site, first of all, its not secure, then you have to hope the person receiving your card # isnt hung over from the night before and they type it in right, cuz its all manual... then send it somewhere else to get it verified, and then someone even different to process it. all these extra steps they do... apply to about 15 other areas in their business as well. not one single db communicates with another.
oh and did i mention they are using Access 97.
the only person there that they consider their current "IT dept" is a lady who has never taken a single computer course in her life. and even their network admin who only comes in "once in a while" is totally fukking them.
their website is a mess.
and they have about 10 different systems to put the data on - and none of it is in realtime.
and they dont just want their separate systems to be integrated, they want to somehow get integrated with other travel agencies, hotels, airlines, and like that... so everything is one-stop shopping like on expedia or hotels.com.
i dont think i need to go on. they need a lot more help that i can possibly give them in 6 months even IF i quit my current job, which i'm not gonna do.
but i'll stick it out a few months and collect whatever they wanna give me i guess. |

jager. |
no it's jaeger. or to be more technical jäger. but b/c american keyboards dont have an 'a' umlaut key (ä), one will add an 'e' after an umlaut letter, so that the pronunciation is correct, to give it that long 'a' sound. or else it would sound awful, like 'jahger', which isnt even a word in the german language, where as jaeger means hunter, etc, you all know the story of jaegermeister.
so no it's jäger or jaeger
believe it or not those 2 dots over letters mean something..... |
|
|
| glittergirl |
| how DO you make the dots? i always wondered.... |
|
|
| klingklang77 |
i do it under keyboard settings. and then add the german keyboard. then the öäü keys are under the ;'[ keys.
there is an easier way but i forgot. so i just put the e after the umlauts. |
|
|
| glittergirl |
| nice! didnt know that. this whole time i thought people were spelling stuff wrong and it was annoying me! |
|
|
| klingklang77 |
| no problem....umlauts are a pet peeve of mine...:disbelief |
