What makes you get worse when mixing?

Was wondering what makes you get worse while DJin then, as in maybe drinking or smoking pot, feeling ill, tired, not in the mood???, post the top 3 or so things that make you get worse, I ain't talking about crap equipment or anything.
mine:
1. HEAT, My room is always hot and when I DJ it gets hotter from all the equipment, it really does mess me up, and I hate it.
2. TIRED, some people do seem to get abit better for some reason, but for me, I just can't get into the music, so my feeling of the set isn't great, but I have to be really tired.
3. MAD, if something has pissed me off, I just can't get into the set, when I'm really mad, I can listen to a good set for about 30 minutes then I'll be back into the music.
EDIT: just thought, the top 3 things that make me DJ my best is:
1. HAPPY, feeling good and if theres a crowd thats into it, I'm in heaven.
2. AWAKE, for obvious reasons.
3. COLD, not freezing cold, but if I'm at a pretty cool temperature, then I'm faster and can concentrate better.
There the complete opposite. |

2 get some sleep! didnt your mother always get you to bed when you get cranky :happy2:
3 throw things ususally help to vent stress.. no dont do this i found that throwing a ps2 controller acrross the room never makes me a better gamer so throwing vinyl is just the same... meh i dunno |

1 Stonedness
2 Tiredness
3 Something on my mind
really its anything that makes you less concentrated on what you are doing. this is why late sets are sometimes a pain in the ass

heat gets to me, but it doesn't really affect my skills. for me it'd be:
1. tiredness
2. insecurity (when i'm on equipment i've never used before, or it's been a while since i've mixed a couple ch00ns, i feel slightly insecure when i get on the decks, even if it's only me and a friend there)
3. people trying to talk to me while i'm at it. for some reason, they start their sentences as soon as i start to cue up. never right after i pulled the mix off. it's not the added noise, just when someone talks to me, i hear words directed at me, i seem to involuntarily concentrate on them, and i lose focus on my beats. |

If I need to pee... that's gotta put me off. It's a pain in the ass to do it during a set in a club too.

| Can't mix properly without at least some kind of audience. If someone/something interrupts me. When I get really pissed from crappy mixing. When I'm drunk. :tongue2 |

Many of the above, plus overconfidence. If I start to mix when feeling *too* confident, I sometimes become complacent and errors creep in.
Tiredness - definitely! DJ'ing requires concentration and fatigue screws that right up. Alcohol's also a big no-no for me, as it always makes me feel tired and lose concentration.
I *used* to take a very small amount of a certain naughty substance before DJ'ing to help combat nerves but try not to such much now. ;) |

I have to disagree about the heat thing, sound travels better in warm air and makes everything sound alot better. If heat affects your mixing then your not going to get far as a club DJ..
Getting nutted can make my sets alot more interesting, your not thinking as much about each tune, more about the set as a whole. You can go alot deeper and more twisted when your nutted I think..
The one thing that totally ruins my mixing is Cocaine. It completly kills off your musical receptors. FACT. |

I disagree. When I get frustrated while playing Tiger Woods (the only game I know or want to know how to play) on the PS2, breaking the controller gives me a certain satisfaction that really puts me back in the game. Same with records. Breaking stuff is always an answer. True, you may not have what you broke anymore, but if it was f*cking you up in the first place, who needs it anyways? |

1 smoking pot (can never concentrate, and it slows me down considerably)
2 stupid friends who keep talking even tho they want to hear me spin, shut up already and listen!
3 fatigue (i can usually get over it if i keep moving)
what helps me is
1 drinking, i concentrate more on the flow of a set and can pick up a vibe a lot easier even tho im not as precise i can still mix fine
2 red bull energy drinks heighten my concentration but i need to drink 2 or more b/c coming off that caffeine high is NOT fun
3 people letting me know they're into what im spinning always helps |
