Compulsive/Obsessive people ?

It's occured to me, that I'm almost ritualistic in a lot of things, and was wondering if ne1 else was also finding themselves being compulsive in things.

Whether or not it's viewing the same websites first when you come online, always making your bed the same way, even the way you eat a sausage roll, or what shoe you put on first, I find myself always doing it the same way & it seems weird that it happens without a thought about it. So i was wondering how many others are like this, and if any1 knows why people can be so compulsive about things ?

oh yeh i reckon if i went to the dr he would say im obsessive compulsive.
whenever im writing, i always go back over the letters. not each letter but normally 1 or 2 in a sentance. i go over it about 10 times until its real dark and pretty much cant read it. haha.
each night when i go to bed i thoroughly check the corners of my room for spiders. then when im in bed i look at my alarm clock (digital) and watch it until it changes till the next minute.
im crazy :eyespop:

the more I think about it, the stupider I get.... even down to making a cup of tea or the way I eat a gammon steak :thepirate I guess I really need (more) help :stongue:

i am obsessive about cutlery.

when arranged in a drawer, if ANY of the knives are pointing the wrong way i go mad. if a serving spoon is in with the dessert spoons i go mad. if teaspoons arn't all in the same direction i cant stand it!

Not really. I think all people are obsessive about something, it's just that most people don't even notice it.

I personally need to go through every single post I do for typos since I simply cannot stand them. I even do it when I'm drunk... you can only imagine how long it takes for me to write a proper sentence then.

Apart from that I've got all these little things... like always putting the right sock/shoe in first etc.
Just some things I haven't really given any thought until now.

the thing about O/C people though is that they go back over whatever it is they do because they think they have done it wrong.

A very common one is the person who is always late for class because they go back to theri apartment, dorm room, or whatever to make sure they locked the door.....this typically happens 10 times maybe more.

the hand washers are crazy though. They don't believe they got the germs off so they scrub all day. This girl in our dorms did that, washed her hand over 100 times a day. She wasn't as bad as most though. Some take skin off when they do it.

Checkers are funny, like the spider checker :P. Some will count all the corners in the room a few times.

Bottom line, everyone does these things, it is just the degree to which you do it that seperates you from a true O/C person. We all have our routines, but if you go back and have to do it multiple times and it starts to get outta hand.....you might wanna seek help.

The only obsessive/compulsive behaviour of mine that I can remember is boiling a kettle.

No matter how much water is in the kettle already I always have to put more in. Even if the kettle is full I will pour out some water just so I can pour some in. I guess I'm worried about the concequences of not putting in extra water, even though I know there are none.

Also I have to witness the kettle boiling. If I leave the kettle to boil and return to a kettle spouting a room full of steam, I will always press the button down again to make sure. :stongue:

when washing in the shower the order is:
balls, arse (note proper spelling), legs, armpits, arms, chest, back, face, hair (if needed)
then drying afterwards with towel is in pretty much reverse order :p

tho this maybe normal

i think ppl need to distinguish between OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and just general habits. ie. putting on your right sock/shoe first is not really obsessive compulsive, just habitual...unless you have to do it five times or something just to make sure...haha

yeah i agree with Boomer. just because you like to do things a certain way...doesn't make you compulive or obsessive. Especially since its an unconcious decision for you. Now if it was something that controlled your life and you had to revolve everything else around it...then that would be a problem hehehe
