Tiësto has become very mainstream and full of himself. Yeah kudos to him for making it #1 for 2 years back to back but it's not like he had to blow up into a ballon about it. It's not the first time he sat there and played his own ...He did it at a club in the States...so when I saw this it made me prove my point further. Yeah he can play his own tracks but surely not all of them...did the Athens Committee tell him...play all your own productions? No. He played it to give himself exposure and fame. And as far as I know it's all he cares about. Tiësto is not the same he was, say 2 years ago. |
Mainstream? when his tracks came out 1 or 2 yrs ago, I don't see this is call mainstream.....
This is the OLYMPICS!!!!!!
I don't see what's wrong with playing ALL of his own . It's a once in a lifetime oppurunity!!! WTF is wrong showing the world what u have contribute to music in the past
Don't tell me DJs who want to be "known" are not doing it for exposure and fame, of course every DJ loves fame and exposure besides the music itself.
You would think so much differntly if you are at the level Tiesto is in now, fame and exposure will be important (look at Oakenfold!!!!)

Enough cents. Time for some dollars. $$$$$

And that pretty much wraps it up.

The opening ceremonies were absolutely BEAUTIFUL, before Tiesto ever started to play....(Luckily there was a low-end NBC channel that was originating from outside of Florida that I pick up on cable - the local channel never broke from hurricane coverage). The choreography, and art was amazing. It was very obvious to me how much meticulous preparation, and attention to detail was put into the performance. It was one of the most incredible performances I've ever seen.
That said, I think I can be certain that the same committee that produced the first part of the ceremony, presided over the decision to have Tiesto perform during the March of the Athletes (or whatever its called). People with more power and money (Greece put something like 2% of their GNP into the games??) decided to have Tiesto, above all other DJ's, perform for A LONG TIME at the ceremony. 4 Billion served.
About him playing his own tracks...
Tell me how this works - anyone (because I don't understand). Let's say Motorcycle puts out a track "As The Rush Comes". Then Tiesto or PVD, or whoever, include it on a CD or mix, or for that matter play it at a show. Does any money go back to Motorcycle? Or do they only make money off the Vinyl sales? My point being, maybe there's a problem playing someone else's music for 4 billion people. I personally think it's awesome that he has enough of his own music to play for that long....
Tiesto is definately not my favorite artist, definately not my least favorite either. (For those who might care, I think Markus Schulz is the best by far) However Tiesto has made more money from me than any other DJ, because he is marketed so well. CD's, DVD's - Tiesto is available. It's sad to think that the DJ that has made me the happiest, and that has brought me more enjoyment in the past few months, is actually Arturo - yet he provides FREE entertainment. (I actually look forward to his mid-week live shows). One day soon - if Arturo chases his passion like he should, he'll become caught in the corporate web of music. Get bigger or perish - we're consumers, and we all want more.
So how can I sum up this rant? I think that the "haters" have a lot of negativity in their own lives, and it must be poring out here. Tiesto, like it or not, made history, and did an excellent job. The best part of it, was to watch the athletes, some of them, as they walked onto the field, jump up and down to the beat of the music. They were pumped-up, and Tiesto's music comlimented their energy well. I don't think anyone will be able to top his accomplishment, and I'm sure that he will prosper after his performance. |

Thank you. I sincerely agree. What is the point of playing for millions of people if you don't even play your own tracks? Thanks to Jack too for seeing my point of view.
FallingMoon, you obviously did not read that my post was not entirely and solely to you, so I have nothing to say in regards to your post. I was not talking about you throughout the whole post. Those who read it will know that I am talking about them.
It's a waste of time to go through and flame on all the DJs you may not like, and it's childish. I think Tiesto did a wise thing, promoting all of his stuff, not anyone elses. GO TIESTO! |

| I think most dj's who produce, given that large of an audience would have done the same thing...and to be honest most regular club shows for djs that produce will drop at least 3 to 5 of their own productions.Lets take tiesto's appearance there for what it is,and what it could be..any exposure of the EDM scene in a positive light and not on a drug scene or deaths or whatever is a good thing.I am not a Tiesto fan at all,but i am a huge supporter of the EDM scene as a whole.Well anyway thats my 5 cents worth from a non trance addicted music lover |

What were you expecting? Him to play Armin's stuff? He was playing in front of MILLIONS of people. Of course he's going to spin his own stuff. FFS, he'd be a moron if he played everyone elses tracks.
Do more , it not only emphasizes your point, but makes you look so 1337 and cool.
Not only directed towards you- but lay off the damn Tiesto hating. HOW many of you go to see his shows? Ok, so STFU. He knows how to get a crowd going. If you don't like his stuff, stop going to see his shows, and shut the hell up. I'm so sick of the bandwagon "TIESTO SUX!!!!!!!!" hating crap. All of you are acting so childish. There are plenty of DJs/bands/artists I don't like but I'm not going to post it in BIGGER sizes to emphasize my point, and rant on and on in every single thread made about them.
We're here on this forum for the music which means that everyone has their tastes, but what brought us all together was the music. Let's not infiltrate negativity into the forum.
*edit* And btw, had my power not been out, and my house nearly busting inwards, I would have watched the ceremony and loved every damn second of it. |
beautiful post, could not have articulated much better myself. bravo, im buying you a drink next time i see you, call me out on it seriously!!! |

of course im not surprised of all this mindless tiesto hating, ive been dismantling peoples senseless critisisms of him for months, and im sick of it, but oh well. but i think people need to realize tiesto is not an egomaniac and full of himself. for christ sakes i met the guy in februrary in pr and talked to him for a few minutes, very nice man, seemed genuinely friendly, very much like his dutch counterparts ferry armin, sander, to name a few, even tho tiesto is a little less accessable then them. and yeah i understand peoples points of view of tiesto being better in the past, i agree myself, i miss the old majik days, but when the guy isnt being swarmed by annoying fans wanting their vinyls auto'd and getting chatted up by management and doing an exhausting 20 shows in 25 days, he can still put one hell of a set when he wants too, ie, majik muzik nite. he's got a lot of pressure on him right, not to mention he is mad busy, give the guy a break. but seriously those of you who say hes not what he used to be, blah, blah, well guess what? THE MUSIC IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE. i for one miss the trance of a few years ago, the stuff nowadays is getting to techish and hard, but hey tiesto has got to play whats out there right now, and if you ask me he still has the best track selection of anyone, considering. but for all you young ens' who bash tiesto let me ask you were you at:
Tiesto @ SPACE AUG 18th of 2002, 6 hours of madness, one of most emotional, complete, well rounded sets ive ever witnessed in my life. incredible, last set i heard live that was like majik years tiesto.
Tiesto Space May 30 03' four hours of insane energy, tiesto's style harder than in the past but still leaves you shakin your head.
Tiesto Space july 03' SICK TUNES, again unparrleled track selection. mixin a little off, but he flew six str8 hours from ibiza right off the decks from amnesia to come do the fourth of july blast and space, because HE LOVES MIAMI, you guys should appreciaiate that.
Tiesto Majik Muzik Nite- alot of people didnt like the set on ta, doesnt make sense to me if you LOVE REAL TRANCE, and vocals perfectly timed, this was your night, INCREDIBLE energy.
now kids this is just of a few sets ive seen of tiesto, i only posted miami dates, because this is the flta forum, but ive seen tiesto close to twenty time across the united states, so if anyone has grounds to critizise its me, not some of you guys who seen him live like, once or twice, thats just not enough to form an opinion. and DA dont let one bad tiesto experience sour your taste on the man wait till the sept, if it happens again, hell even I,the biggest tiesto whore of them all, may start to dissent!(but hey its just as much space mgmt fault then his).
i just think that all this hating on the man who just got done representing the music we love for billions of people is alittle lame and way off base. and to say its egotiscal to play just your own tracks is just disingenuous, if it was you, wouldn't you? yeh, thats what i thought. you should be proud, not bitter. and if you dont respect him now, respect him for what he has done in the past, because he responsible for some of the best trance sets in history(come on,you KNOW IT), and i know he still has some majik left in him... |
