Godskitchen Heaven Fridays at The Docks?

Has anybody been to one of these parties? Are they still going on? The Docks' site is so poorly updated and difficult to navigate that I can't really tell what's going on with it.
My friends are interested in going this Friday, what should I know about it? |

| I went to hear Johan Gielen for Gods Kitchen a while back & I thought it was great...I don't know if they still have it though |

Yeah, I went to see Eddie Halliwell @ the Docks in early July. I think it's awesome that Godskitchen is sponsoring and promoting them but...
I'm sure if you asked anyone at the Docks what "Godskitchen" is all about, they would have no clue!!! It was EMPTY when I saw Eddie H  I saw a few TAs but the dancefloor was so barren it was so brutal. No atmosphere at all.
The problem is that people go to the Docks to have a few drinks, play games and "couple" stuff. The promoters at Followtheparty.com are trying hard to market the place as a reputable venue, similar to the Guv and Boa (The Guv ain't that reputable, tho) but you get the picture.
However, I don't see the Docks as a "true" afterhours place and that's why the crowds they bring in seem to be the top 40 types (Many Ginos and Ginas + people are wearing their clubbing best).
I on the other hand wanna wear running shoes and cargos!
It's a shame that the Docks hasn't been able to make the impact they should have this summer considering all the money invested into upgrading the sound system to a Dynacord and getting GK to support them.
If you do plan to go, check the event listings because if you're a TA, you'll usually get in free. You might consider PMing a TA named Daniella, she's part of Followtheparty.com
But I haven't seen much in the way of promoting from the Docks people in the past little while on these boards?
But Fridays are Godskitchen nights as far as I know.
They've brought some decent talent in this summer, but I think the response they've been getting is less than adequate? |

| yeh, its unfortunate, because its an awesome place, but it needs to pick up, personally for me, guvernment is still my favorite, but i really enjoy docks and sitting by the water, and getting in for free is great!...who's going to be at docks this friday? every week they've had someone, but no mention for this friday. i've been hitting the docks a lot on fridays because theres nothing else really to do on a friday nite...i used to go to system a lot, but am a little bored of it now...maybe i'll go there in the future sometime though...and everyone promotes boa, but i haven't made it there yet, cover seems a little steep and i don't have much money nowadays with paying for tuition and going on a trip...so thats a factor too |

djbuuren,
Yeah, I've noticed you go to the Docks alot from your posts! lol But about Boa, $20 is not a lot. The "true" afterhours in Montreal for instance, it's usually $30 or more.
Boa IMO is the only true "afterhours" venue in Toronto ATM. $20 may seem like a lot for students like us, but I assure you, it's totally worth it.
You should try to make it there and have a look at the place. The sound will blow you away... Not to mention the EXTREMELY friendly staff :D |

I believe Godskitchen Friday's are now done at Docks. Seems the new night is now called Fired-Up Fridays and seem to be a mix of music like Saturday nights.
Too bad they never really got it going - went out on a good note with Crystal Method ... that was aweseome! |

I believe the "Fired Up Fridays" and "Godskitchen Heaven Fridays" were always held on the same night all summer long, they were just in two different rooms of The Docks complex (which you had access to both). The heaven room featured the electronic acts, while the Firedup room was playing mostly hiphop. First time I went to The Docks was to see DJ Hyper, which was good but the GK room was practically empty at points :wtf: .. second time I went to see The Crystal Method and it was fairly full. Both nights I went were great in my opinion.
Good music, nice city view, and free entry thx to promotors. |

i'd also like to know if Godskitchen Heaven Fridays are still running at the Docks .. hopefully JustinStyles or Daniella will reply to this thread ..
my experiences with Godskitchen over in Europe were surreal.. the Global Gathering party was probably one of the most unbelieveable experiences I had there. I was looking forward to checking out a Godskitchen party here before I left for my trip but unfortunately ran short on time.
It would be a shame if they decided to cease operations in TO. I think that the city provided enough potential for a successful night, but I can't say that the level of promoting or marketing for this event was anywhere what it could have been. It's quite obvious that a lot of people here on TOTA despise the type of Top40 club persona that's so prominent in the city, and these nights were loosely being linked to that type of scene which seemed to have offended or rather insulted people here.
I think with a new approach and more involvement in the Toronto EDM scene this night could really take off. hopefully this won't be the end of it ..

| chinaman...well i think i've been there 3 times since the nite began in may...i saw johan gielen, eddie halliwell, and crystal method there...johan gielen was the best, but i wish the crowd was a lot bigger, because i felt like it was almost an insult to him to have such an empty crowd...but on the bright side, everyone that was there was truly into it and that made the nite really good. i really hope they don't stop that nite...because that would be really disappointing...what would they use that room for instead? and we can see that they're even expanding to make that second level...its such a nice place, and i'd like to see it do well, becuase i love big clubs, and am kinda done with the smaller club seen which is adailade and richmond. (mind you i'll still go there from time to time) still want to check out lucid finally...and eventually check out boa, becuase i have to see what all the hype is about! |

I think the problem is that the name and branding was simply passed on to local people at the Docks to handle. Perhaps if there had been more involvement from GK UK, things have worked out better. Though I do think its a pretty hard market to crack in this town regardless of the name behind you. I think that despite the interest level in EDM in Toronto, it is not an easy task to make a run for a new night without bringing in bigger talent than we saw so far at GK Fridays. Perhaps if they had gone all out for their opening night and the week following by bringing in one of the top 5 that might have got things started right. Again not easy to do since Guv pretty much had them all lined up anyway.
Its possible that Godskitchen still sponsors the room but the night is being advertised on the flyers and website as Fired-Up Fridays whereas GK Fridays was prominently displayed before.
At any rate, its too bad that only a few nights really saw the kind of crowds you would have expected. Kinda crazy that they're still renovating that top deck when the existing rooms are far from filling up. Hard to imagine what the thinking is there.... |

^^^ agreed, but i think that part of the reason that they got local promoters involved was probably because they were hoping to get some local insight into getting their nights off on the right track.. unfortunately in this case it would appear to have done the opposite.
whatever the outcome, i just hope that it isn't over for them since I never really got the chance to experience it here..
btw. Trig, u were right about GKGG .. altho being able to catch that much talent at once was pretty mind blowing ..
