Hey good to hear you enjoyed it man! I told you didn't I? Yeah its a little overwhelming but definitely one of those things you're glad to experience once just to get a feel for the way festivals are done over there.
I noticed on one of the recent flyers for Friday nights at Docks it still has the Godskitchen logo attached so perhaps they're just not advertising as Godskitchen Fridays but they're still sponsoring the main room. Not sure but hopefully they're still going by the time you get back. Hope you're enjoying it over there and partying it up! |

I think The Docks needs to decide what they want to be. Are we going to see a DJ or are we going to play mini-putt? Are they trying to attract trance fans or are they trying to get their money from the bridge and tunnel trash? (the Guv does a great job separating their different audiences, so you always feel like the event you are at is the only one going on... separate entrances, completely different vibes, etc.)(big mulkti-room events excepted, of course)
If they really want to attract the trance crowd they need to have a bit more focus.... Just booking a great DJ doesn't really cut it because it's also about the intangibles.
Ie. they need to change theor security philosophy - I have never had problems with security, they still seem to treat me (and everyone else) like . Bad attitudes. (I guess they are used to dealing with drunken s who only understand physical intimidation... but it still spoils the vibe.)
Decor. The Guv/Warehouse understand that sometimes we want to be impressed. Hanging up the same Godskitchen signs every week from the lighting rig isn't the same.
I give the actual space an A- (great sound) but I give the complex an overall score of C- |

Seems to me that the way to go would be for some of the Docks promoters to go to GKUK and say hey, we need A LOT more help with the actual promotion and marketing. I know that there are some Docks promoters that read these boards, especially any thread related to the Docks, so why don't you guys bring the issue up at a meeting or something? You know that all of us here are rooting for you to succeed but the crowd/vibe is a problem for most of us (and most of the EDM culture in general) - figure it out! :p
Edit: to add to the crowd thing, I'd love to say hey, let's break into it with 50 people from TOTA and make our own vibe, but unfortunately we've tried that before and the plastic dollies are a bring-down. I'm sure there are other people who remember a few of the TA parties we've had at top-40ish venues - they were fun, sure, but just not the same as (for example) the Invasions at System where the crowd is already similar and somewhat interested. You guys have gotta try to attract more of the EDM crowd which may (I'm not sure) mean discouraging part of the crowd that makes us uncomfortable. Just a thought, I could be wrong. |

i think that TOTAs are willing to support Godskitchen nights in TO given the right type of promotion
i dunno what happened but it seems like half the people here were removed from the idea of going within the first couple of weeks given the connection it had with a Top40 scene
let's hope there's a 2nd attempt or something ?!

I agree that people were willing to give it a try... In fact most people were pretty excited that Godskitchen was coming to town - and that we had another option for great music.
I think back to the very first Godskitchen event though - the one that featured the "Bad Asses Bitches" and a former playboy model turned DJ, and think that the whole series started off poorly.
No one who truly loved trance would also want to be a part of a Bad Assed Bitches moment... (and I won't even question the wisdom of the bunny). and in fact, everyone I know stayed away.(even though George Acosta was the headline DJ)
After that particular bit of programming, I was pretty skeptical about everythign that came after it. It was pretty obvious to me that they were programming for the Ginos who call The Docks home. So why would I even think of taking the night seriously. |

GK has gone bankrupt - this is probably also a reason the Friday night @ Docks is gone.

Edit:
I guess this could mean the end of GKGG events too. (/me kicks himself in the ass for not going this summer) |

Yikes
It sucks that such a cool organization has gone under... |
