Companies like to do drug tests to make sure they aren't getting a up in as much as they check criminal history to make sure they aren't getting a violent individual or someone who would committ fraud.
I think drug laws are retarded as well, however, it has nothing to do with being "free". To a company you can freely use all the drugs that you want, and they can't deny you any rights like the government can. They can, however, deny you a priviledge such as the job and it's their perogative to make that decision. |
I don't know if they check your criminal record at a job interview, I guess it depends on the kind of job. If they do, it is not something I am aware of (to compare this to the U.S., they even ask you whether you are a convicted fellon when you apply for college, which I think is a bit extreme).
I understand your opinion as to why drug tests are there, and why companies use them. However, I think that testing applicants for drugs is a bit narrow-minded. You cannot make any assumptions from somebody who smokes pot (I am assuming that's what we're talking about here?). Most people do it just to have a good time, socially, and not chronically. For those who do, I'm sure that will turn out at a job interview. If someone is using drugs, why do they automatically get pushed into the '-up' corner?
As to testing for drugs and crimes, that is a huge difference. Your criminal record is checked mostly due to reasons such as safety on the workfloor, I would assume, more so than something that determines whether, again, you are a -up.
Going back to the drugs, personally I think this is a private thing as, of course, this does not affect your working ability. Which is a lot of times hard to assess when you talk to somebody during an interview, in which case a drug test would rule out all drug-users so you won't have to find out the hard way. But since we are talking about personal things, why not test people for using alcohol? I mean, there are plenty '-up's' who are addicted to alcohol. And yet, there also seem to be a lot of people who are able to casually enjoy, say, a beer. I don't see the difference between alcohol and weed in that matter.
And I could go on, like should we go into people's backgrounds, are their parents divorced, is he gay, is he religious, what car does he drive. And so on. And before you know it, you're the leading actor in Equilibrium. (not an accurate description, I know, but I liked the movie :p )

| Move to Canada...I'm pretty sure they don't do bull drug testing there. Hair tests are expensive...they're extremely hard to fool, good luck. |

drug tests in general take the piss.
in my experience, you can usually tell a -up after about 10 minutes of being with them, just by the way they react to things and the way they are when nothing is happening/being said to them.
i can understand how companies would want to rule out skag/crack etc completely, but i don't see how they can justify testing everyone and turning down the stoners/pill heads. for all they know, the pot-head may well be better at the job than someone who has never had drugs in their life. and in my experience, pills generally open your eyes to a lot of things in life (so long as you are sensible) which surely is an advantage?
so long as people don't turn in ed out of their mind, and can do their job to a good standard, then its not really a problem. |

Good luck to you. I doubt this will work but hey what have you got to loose. If they break a hair test out on you I think you are basically screwed. |

I have already confirmed there will be a hair test. If I fail then I fail whatever I dont get the money, but if I pass I get $5,000. Wouldnt you try anyway just to test the theory. I am not loosing anything if I fail, just gaining if I pass.
This is not for work. I have a great steady corporate job and they do no such tests here at all. I may use illegal substances but I do my job and do my job very well at that so they would never think of testing me at my job. I come in early everyday, I help fill in when people call in sick. All around they see me as a very helpful employee.
I take the test next Thursday morning and I am not sure how long it takes to get the results. But I will definetly update this thread and let everyone know my experience once it is complete. |

I know where you work...just a phone call away HAHA jk Z got nothin but love for ya! i would never blow up your spot cuz mines would get blown up too LOLS...anyways from my knowledge and experience, a hair follicle test is virtually impossible to pass for however long you've been using. the follicle must be from your head and no other place on your body. the only solution would be to shave your head and for a female, I don't think that would happen. for a guy yea its not a problem. my best suggestion would be to take as many necessary steps to prevent them from finding out, and then just cross your fingers. or maybe bleach your scalp? HAHA..not to be extreme or anything...

| Thanks Brian! Actually I have bleached my hair so I can get it that bright red color that it is. Hopefully all the hair chemicals I have used in my life will somehow throw off the test. |

I meant to update this post: What reminded me is a TA asked me some info about this today. Instead of typing this all over again I will just post my response to his email with omiting his name. By the way its BAD NEWS!!

Actually I meant to update that post. After telling me that I passed they called me back again and sent the hair to another lab because the first lab said that it was a possible false positive and thats what the shampoo did. It made the test look like a false positve. The other lab was able to do other testing and the shampoo could not prevent anything they found. They found out exactly what I was using, how frequently and at what times and how long ago. This test is hardcore. So needless to say they called me and said sorry but you failed. Tell your friend not to waste her time with the shampoo. If she has to take the test and there is no way out of it she is screwed. Also if a blood sample is taken in conjuntion with this test they can match it up, and there is nothing, I mean nothing out there that will clear your blood and substances take a long time to exit the bloodstream, as with urine it could take a month or so. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Also let her know, it is not just a few strands of hair, they literally take a chunk out of the center of your head so it cant be seen. The test isnt what it seems. I think they take too much hair if you ask me. I still have the damn bald spot. Its enough to make a small ponytail with. And also no amount of hair dye, chemicals or other products will affect this test in any way. The hair is put through a chemical purification process first and the substance that is inside the hair (follicle) is what contains the toxins.
