I was just curious to know ,since there is a gigantic thread on Aliases names , why artists use Aliases names in the first place??
For example why not just say Tiesto and Ferry Corsten??
I thought is was interesting in the Armin interview Toufas did yesterday Armin said he would be producing some house tracks but not under his name . why do you think artist dont like to produce/release under their real name??
wouldnt using just one name make the arists name more popular and more recognizable as a result ?? |

there are a few reasons...
1. different aliases can be used on different labels for legal reasons.
2. different styles can be associated with different aliases.
3. sometimes it just sounds cool. |

Basicly what Floorfiller said.
Some aliases are/might be signed only to a certain label so they cannot be used on any other label. So if the artist gets tracks signed to another label he/she/they must use another alias too.
Usually artists want to experiment some other styles too and by changing an alias they also want people to know it might be a little different from the artists' trademark sounds.
On the opposite of the previous, one reason for a new alias is also that they don't necessarily want people to know they are behind the production or a remix. Maybe because it's so experimental or otherwise not as appealing as the artists' previous works have been.
Btw, Armin has done quite many house tracks and remixes a few years ago under the Gimmick alias. His house tracks were/are much better than Ferry's was. |
