I suppose it doesn't really matter. I like almost all of it, so I suppose as long as I enjoy it, it shouldn't make any diff what genre it really is. |
To a lot of people it doesn't. I just like knowing what's what. |

Ish doesn't even really need to visit TA with you here, does he? But I'm guessing that's your goal. |

Under Epic Trance there is "Castles in the Sky" By Ian Van Dahl. Would you people consider Ian Van Dahl trance?
|
Yes it's epic trance.

but more Techno.

The first four tracks on Tiesto - Nyana CD1 are Techno, especially Tiesto - Obsession (Frank Biazzi Remix).
I'd post a sample but have no place to host.
And let's see someone describe D&B. |

See above....(for my n00b description of DNB)
and i wouldn't class Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky as trance, personally. That's just my $0.02. |

He never needed to visit here. My goal? My goal is to learn as much as I can about EDM.
Though i'm sure he'll magically appear out of the darkness now summoned by someone who cares whether he visits here or not. |

Fast breaks. :stongue:
I guess the easiest way to learn different genres is not asking for descriptions, but looking at what people post, i.e....
"I love the [genre] tune [Artist] - [Name]" and then *purchasing* ;) it, or by listening to a radio station of a certain genre.
Text descriptions just don't help, in my opinion. |

Drum and Bass is fast. Way faster than a tempo of 140. More like 160-200. Broken beat, generally with a specific drum pattern, or modification of it, called an Amen; taken from a song by The Winstons called Amen, brother. Generally sounds very techy, and often has a bass lead. There are exceptions, as with just about anything, but that's a rough idea. It's pretty hard to mistake most dnb for anything else.
Ishkur's guide is actually fairly accurate. There are some parts that I would argue, but it is still a good starting point. Castles In The Sky, Rapture, Sandstorm, all that is epic trance. You just don't want to admit that it is.
While genre-whoring is a difficult pastime, I find it's pretty useful; if only to use as a rough description of a song.
Man, way too many ing commas.
Edit: tribu, I'd argue a bit with what you posted. Holden plays a lot of techno these days, and I'd say Tiesto, Armin, and Paul van Dyk are better examples of trance. As for your acid category, man, that's rough. Acid is hardly a genre, it's so damn broad. |

Yeah, that looks about right. I was going to mention Dieselboy, but couldn't remember any other artists or DJs off the top of my head. |
