House and techno is where it all started. I got into it back around 90-91. I must admit that Chris sheppard's techno trip CDs were a big influence on me back then. You have to remember that at one time, Shep actually played underground music. My "starter" music was definately stuff like C&C Music factory back in 1989. LOL!

Other big influences were Terry Kelly for progressive (back then prog was a very different sound). Mark Oliver for breaks and house on CFNY's Deadley Hedly show. Matt C for House music (live to air from the Pheonix on CFNY 102).

Although I don't do that stuff anymore.. to dance to techno on E was way better then dancing to anything else. lol :p Techno just puts you in the mood. I love it. For the record I was into trance before techno.

i liked trance first (late 2000) and still love trance now regularily making new cds....(i'm at club mix 24 now) but i'd say about 2 years ago i started expanding my tastes and now i'm really into house and techno as well as trance...i'm also really into ambient remakes of trance songs as well as regular ambient...i basically listen to anything as long as its not to freaky sounding...(ie. never liked drum and bass, jungle, breaks or any of that stuff...to hardedged and raver like for my taste). but in order nowadays...my preferance goes

trance
house
techno
ambient
film scores (i love film scores from john williams, hans zimmer, james horner, and guys like that)
euro (if i'm in a cheese music mood)
latino/latin house (just cause my gf likes it, and it can be fun to listen to sometimes)
and even a little alternative sometimes...but i usually only like the alternative music i liked b4 i got into trance, not the new stuff, becuase lots of it is ...alternative from the 90s was the best, the exception is coldplay though, cause they're good

First started lisitng to Techno when I moved to Cyprus, while I was there every club pretty much played only techo. While I was there , never really paid any attention to it. But once I moved to Halifax, and couldnt listen to any of it, thats when I realised how much I enjoyed it. After moving to Toronto, and trying out E, there was no going back.

trance rules!!!

:D

First discovered techno July 13, 2001 at Turbo. First time I ever heard Misstress B.

Within a year and a bit, I was buying techno records, within 2 years, playing them out for people!

I too listened to Chris Sheppard and all of that in the early 90's, but I wouldn't consider that techno. it was just popular dance music. Since then, I moved on to rock, r&b, then got into electronic music again in 1999-ish when I started going to gay clubs with friends. Moved on to trance in 2001, but only had a brief phase where it was my music of choice.

If you listened to him early on enough (before 1992-93) he played pretty much nothing but techno and breakbeat. Or i should say, whatever DJ he hired played that... hehehehe

Considering I was born in 1980, 1991 was the earliest I ever really started listening to music at all.

yeah... i started about 1989, before that i listened to whatever was on in the family car.. heehehehhe
Mr Rogers
i started off with depeche mode, new order, than i chris sheppard was the bomb back then. Some of his was considered techno for sure. Prodigy was a huge influence to, josh wink with his "higher state of conciousness" and " are you there" got me really into EDM.
