to be honest i think this attempt is found to fail
as someone else said, you probably wont get more than 10 mins and unless you have some amazing skills, youll look like a twat trying to quickly mix in and out of a bunch of (at best) pretty average tunes
if you have the skills to do a turntablist set, then i suggest doing something non-trance that still incorporates EDM, something like the stuff done by 2manyDJs or dj yoda . however, you MUST be good to get this right, otherwise it will look like 2 wannable, not very skilled DJs trying to do something above & beyond (excuse the pun ;) ) their level of skill
another idea (very difficult tho) would be to use convetional instruments (like a guitar) to play some EDM tracks - UNKLE in a state would be pretty cool to pull off with say, guitars and drummers
sadly, if you just play even 2 trance tracks, chances are people will get bored and simply not respond. i know its everyone's pipe dream to play an amazing set that suddenly converts everyone into EDM lovers but sadly that will never happen

with a bit of elbow grease and a lot of preparation - im sure me and me m8 can pull it off. I reckon we'll probably have about 10mins - the problem here is that i need to find something that would grab any persons attention - most people in my school either have no knowledge of trance or accept it as techno - i want to try and change that this year
any ideas peeps??

| Unless you're scratching/cutting/beat juggling or holding transitions for more than two and a half minutes you don't deserve to be in a talent show. If you don't, someone playing a kazoo would more talent than you. |

| I may be wrong, but I don't think he intends on playing vinyl or using a mixer. It sounds like he wants to play a couple of cool trance tracks to show it to the people at his school. Like I said, I may be wrong, but if that's what he wants to do, it won't take much talent, but go for it. Who cares, spread the music. |

So, you are just going to pick a few tracks and play them on a stereo for 10 minutes? Let me ask you, are the people you are playing to going to be sitting in an auditorium with seating or are you going to be in a gym? If it is an auditorium then forget about it. While the energy from the music may be there, it won't go anywhere because the people are sitting. If it is in a gym, then it may be different because the audience has open space to dance (if they so desired).
Unless you bring in dj equipment and demonstrate how to mix and do a quick transition for about 10 minutes, then there is no point in going forth with it. Like you said, there will be no talent involved. After all, isn't that why they coin it a "talent show"? |
