what do you like to do?
how long do you have for travel?
where have you been before?

i'd recommend new york but then i am biased.

NYC - I hear good things about it but never been there (yet).

Los Angeles - Nice weather, everything spread out (that's both good and bad). Very eclectic.

San Francisco - Opposite to LA, everything in a small area. But still very lovely. Great food, great atmosphere.

Well I would make a stop at NYC for sure. After that I would check out SF. Thats an excellent "tourist-y" place, plus its amazing how many sections there are in such a small area of land. You've got China town, etc.

new york has chinatown too... i'd also keep in mind that SF is a 5-6 hour flight from new york that will cost you an extra $300... so you might want to decide if you want to explore the east coast or west coast, if you are going to hop from city to city... things are not in close proximity in the US.

cant believe no one has mentioned San Diego yet...

san diego is a must if you're coming to california, beautiful weather, city, and of course...people. Lots to do there as well.

Make sure you hit up pacific beach for the partying, and beaches of course. I like the nightlife in SD more than LA...everything and one in LA is about money and how much you have.

Wise words. I'm under the assumption that the visitor plans on traveling nationwide.

If you do pick a coast, I will be partial and recommend the West Coast. One of the world's greatest drives is along PCH in California. You can rent a car in LA and rive up on PCH towards Northern California. it can get rather slow...but this good since there many visual wonders along the way.

LA is the place... You got the Beach, the Desert, the Mountains, and the City all with 1-2 hours away! LA is HUGE!!!! So much to do, and you never get bored or tired of it.... Oh yeah, and we do have a China town, Korea Town, and many other "towns." Plus, we have Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags, Knotts, Hollywood, Malibu, Santa Monica, and many other theme parks, destinations, and more... LA is just the bomb!!!! And with so much Diversity, people, and stuff to do, you'll never get bored!
