I hate condoms. I must say I am the self confessed worlds worst at putting them on. Its dark and slippery and i'll get it half way on and then it'll just ping across the side of the room and get stuck in a corner. If I ever manage to get one on successfully I fell like running round cheering instead of having sex its such a monumental achievement for me! :toothless I must say, I'm grateful that the missus is on the pill.

funny you were thinking about the implant cuz i was jus talking to lammy about it last wk. i was thinking about getting it done too but i dunno if it'd come completely free tho. well...maybe we were talking about something else...we were talking about something that is like a coil that's inserted into you...and u still do get ur period...so maybe its something different?

but i'm not the most knowledgeable person about stuff like this, altho if i really wanted to, i'd do research and consult a doc.

Anyone on here, or anyone got a girlfriend who has got the hormone implant thingy?

I'm debating getting that, trying the injections, or just remaining on the ever 'forgotten to take' pill.

the missus has had it put in today, she says it doesnt hurt her arm a bit, although the local anaesthetic hadn't worn off by then...

we can keep you posted on how it is if you like? let me know ;)

yeah keep me posted, i've got 3 more months of the pill in stock and will decide after that, and much research.

Fi, the coil (IUD)is differnt, that is inserted into your cervix, my mum had it. Generally this is for long term contraception, mostly given to women after they have had children. However it is a viable option. You might as well go to the docs and ask.

In the mean time this site had all the british (anti) family planning association info on fpa contraception

The last girl who I was dating got depo injections. She really liked them because it was so convenient (in-and-out @ the doctor) and she didn't have to worry about anything for 3 months. She always got them in her shoulder and said that it was a bit tender for a few days but nothing too bad.

yea i had the implant done today , was soooo easy! im a wuss with needles but it didnt hurt @ all coz they give u anesthetic. it lasts 3 years and i have been on the pill for about 4 and im fed up of it basically although it did sort out my uber heavy periods...thats my only concern, that my periods will be hellish again..the nurse said that is the main side effect u get (irregular bleeding) but u do with any hormone thing dont ya? i think its worth it tho for me personally.

i think you should get it, ultimate non-faff :)and its like 99.99% effective. in the book i got it said that out of the 2468 women who tried it 0 got pregnant!

Since they came up with an contraceptive patch.... Why don't they come up with an anti-STD patch.

That would make everyone's lives that much easier!

well the implant scares me, i dont like the idea of the side effects, nor the possibility of not returning to normal flow for possibly some time after.

I'll enquire at my doctors if they have the patch, but as they only gave info about the injection and implant i'm not sure that they have it. It sounds like an easy option (i'm not fond of injections either you see)

I really am not inclined to stay on the pill i have been on it for 5years or so. I think i may just take a break from it for a while (sorry gareth condoms here we come) before deciding what i should do with my body, kids definitely being not an option.

I know the implant thing sounds scary, its really does, but the girls I know with this seem to swear by it. At the end of the day its your body.

Gotta say though that condoms are a necessary evil, especially with new relationships, but they really suck for long term mutually exclusive sexual relationships.

The implant is much safer than the injection, especially as far as side effects are concerned, and once you are over the initial fear of having something inserted, its carefree life. The pill is not as safe as most people think, and I've heard of many cases of people falling pregnant on the pill, and there are plenty of side effects, like weight gain.
