i listen to prog trance, prog house, deep house, trance, drum & bass, progressive breaks
and i've heard a good electro song in a cd shop in Japan, and i've heard a good D&B song on xm radio and I actively seek out songs of all genres

oh yeah, I also found out about an uplifting pop/rock song when I was in Taiwan. It's pretty good.

True EDM lovers listen to EDM and don't pigeonhole themselves.

theres elitists in every type of genre its just narrowminded being like that.
for some reason people that like techno dont like trance
people that like trance bash hard house theres no need for it.

what is it with elitists that think trance is like pop?
Do they NOT listen to trance or what?
They couldn't name a real trance song and still think its pop.

how can they listen to only techno/house/psy/D&B ?

imo elitists are worse than newbies because they are both equally ignorant

Whats wrong with pop?

I like a lot of music, including mainstream rap. I liked Wu-Tang Clan when they were "underground" and I like them after they "blew up" and got the "bling whales" :). He he. The other day, I was gr00vin' to a subliminally-played version of Nelly's "Iz U" -- you know, that song that makes catchy use of a sample of The People's Court theme. And it made me think of... the plaintiff and the defendant! As in, are our musical tastes on trial here? Why can't we have more freakin' fun??

I don't like the attitudes of technosnobs or classical music snobs or whatever, but they do serve a role -- warning the rest of us to be more openminded and diverse in our approaches to music or end up cranky and whiny like them!

I'd like to hear more trance-hop and I think maybe Hybrid will do this on their next album. We already have trance 'n' bass and breaktrance, and slowing down the BPM and infusing some of that hypnotic goodness as slightly been touched on by Timbaland and a few other producers.

We gotta remember that these musical divisions are largely arbitrary, and a "necessary evil" of accessibility and convenience. You can't just bash a whole genre because like the infinite worm, where does it end and where does it begin? We're all interconnected and house with added arpeggios is trancey or techno with a supersaw riff comes *too* close anyway. "Trance" itself may be likened to all the kinds of dogs . . . they come in all sorts of sizes & shapes. :P

Word man. You and I have the exact same outlook. Especially in your other post where you said you love to find that diamond in the rough.

I am a firm beleiver that, with ALL the music out there, there is a son gin EVERY genre that EVERY person would like. (As long as they give said song a chance). I guarantee there is a polka song out there that, if you were to listen to it with an open mind, you;d say "Wow... that's pretty damn good." It's just that most people won't even give that genre a chance, whether it be polka, country, rap, trance, etc. There are thousands of genres and billions of songs out there. And there are some people who only listen to 1 or 2 genres? Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

I gave country a chance but I cannot stand it. There is something about it that just bothers me. I have no problem with people liking it but if someone plays it in a room, I normally just get up and leave.

However, I'd be correct in assuming that you have not heard EVERY country song, right? So you really don't know if there is a country song out there that you'd dig. I for one like that Leann Rhymes song... don't know the name of it, but I dig it. Yes, I'm sure there's even a FL breaks tune out there that you'd dig. :thepirate

Well if there is one of each genre that I would like, I still have not heard it. I'm not trying to be l33t, country bothers me, it's something about it that I have yet to explain (kinda like coupland's idiocy, don't know why but you know he is).
