Pit Bulls should all be destroyed. All horrible dogs
If you want a good dog that could also serve as a watch dog get a Mastiff, or a Doberman. |

| I was reading and i read that another big factor with the dogs is their parents. If their parents were very agressive or raised for fighting, they have a better chance of being agressive/violent. |

Try not talking out of your ass stick. I worked with vets and animal shelters for 6 years. I've personally seen over 5 attacks by pits, and heard of dozens more just in my local area, and around the metroplex in less than a years time. I've continued my working with animals especially dogs and cats while in the military and while not deployed. Since I've been in I've volunteered over 300 hours at animal shelters, and kennels. Know what I've seen a lot of? Pits that being given in to be destroyed because they've been attacking or injuring children or random people. Dogs that were bred for the sole purpose to kill will instictively attack if it gets the slightest inclination that someone is "a threat". Pits are not good dogs. If you want a good gaurd dog get a Mastiff or Doberman. |

i would agree with that.
I recommend buying from a "professional kennel" rather than joe schmoe selling dogs out of his back yard because of this. You will end up paying more, but usually will have better quality due to having dogs with "papers" and usually can see both parents on site.
you can also maybe look in to going to a Pit Bull Rescue , which has dogs looking for new homes, but you have no way of knowing the background of them, although they do temperment test them i believe. |

Honestly there are some nice ones, but there are alot of bad ones. It doesnt really matter that much if both its parents were well behaved, it could still be very violent.
Also i read an article somewhere, where a couple had owned this pitbull for 6 years, and it NEVER did anything violent whatsoever, but then they had a baby, and maybe it got jealous, or something, because it ended up killing it in its crib.
Theres various other cases, so why take the risk? Why not get a different kind of dog? |

excerpt taken from pitbull message board about this lady's dog:
| quote: | | i again called him and went to take him by the collar to go to my room with me, no reason at all no warning, he attackled my hand. he would not let go, it seemed lkike eternity when finally my son heard my screams for help. he ran and had to hit him on his head in order for him to release my hand. he had no remorse. i now am looking at surgery for nerve dammage. i am out of work. i am heartbroken and dissapointed in my dog for his behavior. i am very depressed and in tremendous pain. he tore apart my hand. i have always taken such good care of him. he has a wonderful life. i dont get it. he is not sick either. i believe it was a dominance issue. |

i am going to make this short because i cant type one handed.
friday night, i was having a birthday party for my husband.
my 8 year old yellow lab/golden retreiver was mingling with the crowd( i have owned him for 7 year)s everyone was having a nice time including my dogs.i went inside aroumd midnight to strat cleaning up. a few neighbors/friends were still outside. i was tired so decided to get ready for bed. i called my lab to come with me to my bedroom where he sleeps, he ignored me, i again called him and went to take him by the collar to go to my room with me, no reason at all no warning, he attackled my hand. he would not let go, it seemed lkike eternity when finally my son heard my screams for help. he ran and had to hit him on his head in order for him to release my hand. he had no remorse. i now am looking at surgery for nerve dammage. i am out of work. i am heartbroken and dissapointed in my dog for his behavior. i am very depressed and in tremendous pain. he tore apart my hand. i have always taken such good care of him. he has a wonderful life. i dont get it. he is not sick either. i believe it was a dominance issue.
it just goes to show its not always the pits. i would trust any of my pits with my life!!!!!!!!!
i saw a plastic surgeon yesters=day!!! if this were one of my pits, it would have made national television but because he is a lab, society will say "oh too bad, was he abused as a puppy"

I had one but I had to give it to my friend after three months b/c I had to move, and I couldnt take her with me. It was very sweet dog, no problem with her at all, very friendly.
My friend has one. He has the most dangerous pitbull in the whole town. This dog is very good to the people whom he knows, but If you mess with him, and he doesnt like you/dont know you you are in big trouble. You must show this dog whos the boss.
One day this dog ripped of half of the tree:nervous: , but from the other side, my sister plays with that dog like he was a toy
If you live in the US I wouldnt get that dog(thats why I gave mine) |

It depends on how you train/raise it, and from what kind of conditions its parents came from.
Yes, they can be dangerous animals, mostly because that's how they were bred and raised (to be fighters or guard dogs). But it mostly depends on the animal. My sister has a pit bull who is just the sweetest thing. He is definately defensive of his home and my sister - as are most dogs - but he isn't aggressive unless you're threatening him or her.
If you raise one from a very young age that you get from a reliable breeder, you should be fine. |

| I'm torn right now, I may look at the staffordshire bull terrier if it is not as violent. |
