ATHENS (AP) — A man wearing a brightly colored costume bolted from the crowd and grabbed the leader of the marathon Sunday, about three miles from the finish.

The intruder wrestled Vanderlei Lima of Brazil to the curb and into the crowd. Police tackled the man and freed Lima.
Lima, whose lead had been slowly shrinking, was able to get back into the race but he lost several more seconds and eventually was overtaken by Stefano Baldini of Italy, who won the gold. Lima won the bronze medal after also being overtaken by Mebrahtom Keflezighi of the United States, who captured the silver.
The intruder, who police said was from Portugal, was arrested. His name was not immediately available. |

Now, this is fucking pathetic. We're not a country of many medals. And those who manage to get one, do it without much financial support. They do it sweating their blood, making sweet from sour, as do the athletes from many other countries that don't have that much money to spend on sports, as we have other serious problems to take care of.
Whenever we see someone from our land in the olympics, we cheer as if we were the ones who would get that medal. Doing the impossible, breaking our limits. Even if a Brazilian athlete loses, we cheer for him/her, as we know how tough it was to get there. And they did their best, fair play.
Now, some cuntie bastard takes those sacred seconds for any athlete, of being on the lead of the Olympics' most traditional sport, and destroy that dream.
I don't care how cheesy these paragraphs are, nor I care if I suck at swearing (lack of practice, I know), but I just had to vent.
Bastardo desgramado filho da puta, eu espero que ele tenha a bunda violentada por uma manada de cavalos com herpes  :whip:

Did he honestly have the intent of stealing the medal from a certain country? My money is on that he would've done it to whoever was in the lead. |

quote: | Police identified him as Cornelius Horan, an Irish citizen. In July 2003, Horan, in a costume similar to Sunday's, ran onto the track at the British Grand Prix in the middle of the race and stayed there for more than 20 seconds, forcing racers to swerve around him. He was carrying a sign that said, "read the Bible — the Bible is always right." |
phew, you can now blame ireland :p |

I couldn't believe it when I saw that happen, fortunately for the Brasilian athlete he had the courage and the fortitude to keep his wits about him and finish in the medals. |

I foresee a major Guinness boycott now :p
I'm glad it wasn't a fellow Portuguese citizen, as this would probably create another wave of anti-lusitanism that didn't happen since the XIX century.

Paran0iko, cês não usam "desgramado" em portugal não?
Instead of "ungrassy", I guess "hairless/childish/immature" would be a better translation, as body hair seems to play an important role in Brazilian culture :p |

that's really ed up...i think that the guy who got the gold should give that dude his medal (same with that american gymnist dude...he should give his gold to the korean dude). i mean, something like that happens and you win because of it? i wouldn't want a medal like that. |
