man... i've been to hell and back - nearly gave producing in today! i can't make good basslines sounds up for toffee! i need something similar to primolux 'chains'! if you are unfamilier with this tune it is kinda like a rolling bassline sound, which i think is a little deep sorta sound used in most uplifting trancers! i use almost every plugin available! could anyone please point me in the right direction! this is my down fall in my productions - they sound empty! though i do need a mid bass too! hope this all makes sense!
my appreciation goes out to anyone who can help! |

Consider 8 steps in your sequencer like this:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Kicks (K) goes there:
K _ _ _ K _ _ _
Bass (b) notes goes there:
_ _ b b _ _ b b
Apply a 3 step delay on your bass...
You have it! |

It's all in the layers...
One high bass, possibly quite a lot of notes, varying and some delay/reverb.
One mid bass with a bit less notes and less delay/reverb.
One sub bass, almost (if not completely) dry. |

I myself has never used more than one layer of bass in my tunes.. just add something else to go with the bass and ur fine.. atleast thats my opinion at the moment.. although I might consider adding more layers for bass.. just too see what it will sound like... cheers |

as tranceferd suggested one track, i will suggest one too .... but i mostly write goa and psy, so this might be unsuitable for you.
track is written in 16ths, 'b' stands for notes 32th long (half of 16th), and 'B' one 16th long (k is kick of course).
k _ _ _ k _ _ _ k _ _ _ k _ _ _
- b B _ _ b B b _ b B _ _ b _ B
... or something like that.
of course, you could also fill the blanks in the bassline with notes 32th long, and with a lower velocity (for example, 30-40) to get that neat rolling effect. if you fill the blanks with lower velocity notes, do not use delay, because it will start to sound muddy. to play a bassline like this, you will need a bass sound which has a really short release. for this sound i made a preset in pentagon vst synth, based on a 'unison' patch, but most basses with short release times will do. |

Trance isnt a minor league in music production
If u want something simple to create...make Rap/Hip Hop
4/4 kicks a couple of snares some electro/fx sounds and lyrics talking about ur babys momaz asking for child support...and the 'PoPo' after you.
or u can be on the better side of rap/Hip hop and be like talib kwali (sure thats wrong spelling) and slum village...there damn good

Trance is Very very Complicated due to the fact you have to bring out that atmosphere in the track, Unlike house or techno which is usually percussion and bass driven.. Trance has those elements in it that brings out a vibe. Again Music has No rules, but has Structure
Rules are different than structure |

I agree with you. :whip:
It's simple to make a trance drumloop + bassline, but there are melodies and musical theory behind them. And that isn't so easy to create. |

complicated as it seen. Hard what we feel. But keep on trying, you might get something out nice.;)
Trance, is all about nice bassline / Kick, nice sound and nice melody. If none of them work out, that not trance. :D
What I belive is to work with it until you know what is going on.
Try get the bassline note as some producer posted. do it on ur song and play ard.:) |
