Biz and Neal....i can honestly say the little debate you two have going on right now is one of the most positive ones i have seen on TA in a long time. Very well worded and respectful towards each others opinions. I just felt like i needed to tell you guys that.

Biz nice to hear (or see) your opinions again...i think the last time i saw you discuss was in the Chill Out Room before Political Room was created years back...nice to see ya bro!! All we need now is ATBsportline (sp?) to come back....where the hell has he beed for the past 2 years...lol |

Let's be realistic though, if a moment of silence helps anybody, please let me know. If a prayer helps anybody, that's your thing, I don't discuss religion. I'm beyond that now. If a post saying "I feel sorry for those who died on the 11th of Sept." or anything of that sort will help you, then you might get it.
Every single human counts. I feel for every person who dies. Not beceause it's on a massive level like "9/11" but because it's troubling to think that today we still try to solve issues by eliminating the enemy or that which we might consider the enemy. What a world. |

Sorry but 9/11 hits home to Americans more, because we live here. We don't know what is happening in Rwanda firsthand or Sudan. If there is a Sudanese man or a Russian who wants to put forth memory for those lost in the school tradgedy we wouldn't hold anything against them.
And about it getting old, we do this so we DON'T FORGET, thats the whole point. You want this moment burned in your brain so you know what it feels like and it never happens again. Maybe you need someone to drive up to your house and blow your family up for you to understand.

If you don't want to take part in the tribute, move along and STFU. We live here, it means more to us. You act as if we completely ignore world events. I personally would post in a tribute to the Russian hostage situation too, as well as this, as well as any major event in which lives were lost. Quit over analyzing all this and ing move on with your day. I don't understand how a lot of you don't have more important things to do except bashing a tribute thread. So many damn pathetic people. |

Yes, ABT (not ATB ;)) is one of the greater losses TA ever endured. I really miss him.
As to the posts of biznology and badNeil, I agree: It's an example to be followed, but I don't think that their behaviour is that revolutionary. Both of them have posted excellent posts before, and both of them seem to be calm individuals. In this thread I agree with biznology, though.
And, to those of you that compare this "tribute" thread to remembering victims from the russian shool or the Madrid bombings, please bear in mind that those events are much more recent than the attacks in New York and Washington. Riding along that reasoning, I think that any thread which has as topic the recent slaying of some group of people (be that a couple of americans hanged from a bridge, some russian school children, or a few thousands of sudanese people) is warranted, but a thread which has as topic some event which happened years ago, and where no new information has surfaced does not belong in the political forum. |

To the slovenian guy, so are you telling me that I should forget the people who died for my freedom in WWII? because I need to move on. Your logic imo is completely flawed, 2900 people died on that day because they were Westerners in a cowardly attack on the USA. Notice that Bin Laden is such a chicken that he has to hide in the mountains in the middle of nowhere, he does not have enough guts to face up or fight for what he believes in, it is all hit and run. I'm sorry but I'm never going to forget 9/11, even being Canadian, I was still affected, my country's liberty was still affected as well, we still lost people in the towers. I don't get why anyone would make light of what happened and why should we forget, so we should move on and forget it ever happened?. I'm all for moving on but what's wrong with remembering the people who died in 9/11 once a year, heck we do it on November 11th and no one seems to go on about it. Every year on November 11th, the people in the legion hall near my house, I go over and hang out with them and any people that I know who served in WWII, I thank them for my freedom, sure I was born several decades later but I'm still going to reflect on November 11th. I think it is weak that people want others to move on and forget about it, of course the Russian kids dying was pathetic as well but they should not be forgotten either. |

I don't see where it says events from years ago cannot be discussed. I find people like you, really irritating because you seem to say that people can't talk about past events that affected their lives. You just don't get it because no one attacked your country, if it had happened you would be crying foul as well. |

Thanks. As someone else noted, we aren't doing anything revolutionary, I try my best to avoid personal attacks, try to form well rounded opinions or facts when possible and it goes a long way. If the name calling and personal attacks in the PF were gone it would be a much better place. |

Not all of the killed were westerners... seeing as it was the WORLD trade centers.. a large portion of the dead were international workers...even muslims |

See TTA this is where you are wrong...we can discuss past events that affect people's lives.....just so long as those people where the victoms of injustice at the hand's of the American government.
I guarantee if i made a thread to tribute the people of Iraq, Cambodia, Vietnam, or any other nation that lost lives due to American wars etc...then people whould have a field day with it in here...
Eh i said it 3 years ago...and i will say it today....there are a lot of anti-American TAs that will flame America no matter what we do.
Case in point JohnSmith (Canadian)...this tosser ranted on and on about America last year. he went so far as to say he was protesting against America and would not drive his car ..forgot why...it had to do with his car being connected to America or gas from America..or some weird . He posted on and on about his disgust for America and refused to use ANY American products or services (As if his lack of contribution to the American economy would have an affects:rolleyes: ) He even made a protest America web page that he told everyone about.
Anyway the funny thing was he claimed to protest America by not driving his car (again forgot why)...but this kids freaken web-site was hosted on an American web-server:rolleyes: that he PAYED for...LOL
People here talk tolerance...sure so long as it's not for Americans///remember we are the evil ones... |

Wow I was only gone for a day and this there has been much flame about the thread.
So now I will answer the question.
Who closed the thread? I did. I made it and closed it within minutes. Because the other day in the library, I was reading something about 9/11, when this guy came up to me, and said "you guys deserved it" I hit him in the face and left.
Made me pissed for the next few hours, and looking at how simple threads on these boards can turn into hellholes where people goat each others comments, i closed it so no crap like "you deserved it", "its bushs fault" comes up. it was just a simple thing for someone to view and reflect on throughout the day.
so there, answers your questions.
Meanwhile, someone coulda just made another one anyways!
(im still somewhat troubled as how I can close it but can reopen it. ????) |
