Few reasons.
It is a symbolic gesture of one's country.
Did you see after 9/11 happened flags were draped on all the major buildings?
During the olympics the athletes cover themselves in their flags and sing while their flag is raised?
We take pride in the flag, hence, our national anthem talks about our flag in detail, we have flag day here in the states, we have a pledge of aliegence to the flag, etc.
I don't know about other countries but it does actually mean quite a bit here. |
I can talk in behalf of Chile, during Independence Day, every house places the Flag up high, brings it out of the closet, and just showscases it.. you could see this in almost in every house ( I don't quite see this here in the U.S. though .. ) .. but yes, that's what they do, and all you see is the Chilean flag in the street.. soo atleast in Chile, I've never seen any citizen burning it's own countries flag.. if seen, it would be taken as some freak terrorist from the outside. |

Burning an American flag may be free speech, but if they're any rednecks around, the protesters can count on some free knuckle sandwiches to go along with it. Pardon me sir. Would you like some Grey Poupon to go along with your sandwich? Kapow!!!
:D

LoL.. yea, dont mess around with rednecks. Funny thing is, I always see this rednecks with 7 ft flags flapping on the highways.. all ripped off and such from the wind.. I would take more care of the flag if I was a Flag lover heh. |

Correction: WAS. Georgia had to go the PC route to put the issue to bed so not to offend anybody still living in the 19th century. What a cluster that was. |

Hehe, confederate flags rule. If I was to put a flag on my car, it'd be a confederate flag. It's just so...redneckish. Too bad you can't pick confederate flag here on TA profile. |
