Not sure where this fits in and how, but maybe the way electronic music has crossed over into things such as movie scores (don’t BT and Oakenfold both do this)?
Perhaps labels such as Hooj should be mentioned in bringing great music to the masses?

YES!!!
I'm going to vouch for a certain implementation of this too -- and it dates back as I stated with my example of Jan Hammer. Also notable names like Hans Zimmer and his Media Ventures, and more recently, Don Davis and his collab with Ben Watkins aka Juno Reactor on The Matrix films. But as for dedicated dance producers who have tried to "cross over", it's been even harder oppose the classical music snobs. And I shouldn't forget Tangerine Dream and what they did for Sorcerer, Thief, and the controversy over Legend, etc.
Electronic instruments have a long history of not being taken seriously when used for TV/film scoring because a mistake is commonly made to use them to emulate acoustic orchestral instruments and the like too closely, thus defeating the unique purposes of what synths can do. They've been used a lot, alright, but respect has been begrudging -- you may hear some people say, "Why does that music sound SO FAKE?" as opposed to "Why does that music sound SO UNREAL?" It's quite a matter of perspective.
And oh yeah, by mentioning BT and Oakenfold, you reminded me of another landmark which will be important -- I hope -- in the years to come.

Man his technique is just phenomenal. If u wanna be impressed, try and get yourself a hold of Dave Clarke at i Love Techno 2001, near the end he'll do beat juggling with a divine trance/techno track. |
