Hmmm...Someone who is very talented, has stood the test of time and is regarded as a production genius; against someone who is well known for trainwrecking, whose productions are uninspired and formulaic, and who plays bad music.
What a hard choice  |
Sasha isn't even near genius. He is great, but not THAT great. |

Well in the quest to form a balanced & well backed up opinion (for a change)... here are my views on both.
Both are great producers; both have a range of producing styles & have come out with loads of inspiring/fresh stuff over the years. Both are responsible for some of the worlds most loved dance tunes & both excel in their respective style. On the downside, neither are 'pure' producers & often rely on sound engineers & studio partners to help them. 'AirDrawnDagger' was an intricate & sublime journey through electronica, and almost every tune from 'In My Memory' has become an overplayed classic. Producing-wise they both deserve credit.
DJing wise there's a big difference. Sasha will put his head down throughout his set and concentrate on delivering a technically flawness mix whilst being as creative as he can. His sets are of an undeinably high quality and people love him for that. Tiesto, on the other hand, focuses on structuring his set to maintain the optimum crowd reaction, often basing it heavily around his own productions. He enjoys the crowd & the atmosphere and it shows when he plays. Producing a technically flawless set is not a priority to him and he'll often use abrupt transitions between records, and is not always 100% focused on the technical aspects of mixing. However he's a damn site better than Oakey :p
So in conclusion it comes down to the DJing side and it purely depends what you look for in a set. I've heard a few Sasha sets (only seen him live once), and whilst they've impressed me, they haven't really excited me a great deal. I find while I've often cringed at some ropey mixing by Tiesto, I've enjoyed his sets alot more overall (seen him live three times) because of the music blend he plays. Not just because I prefer trance to prog... I would compare Tiesto to PvD in the same way; PvD, from what I've seen.. is more of a trance equivalent to Sasha.
So whilst I fully appreciate Sasha and would put him above many trance DJs/Producers, it's Tiesto for me since there's something about his sets & music that just seems to click.
OK, have had my say. Back to the old 'Tiesto sucks, end of.' compelling arguments  |

Pure wisdom.
I don't understand what the question entirely means. The two of them as artists overall, as DJs or as Producers. |

Some of you only blame Tiësto because he has become a commercial DJ. Back in 2001 and 2002 when he just released flight 643 en Lethal industry everyone loved him, but since he has reached a larger public than clubbers, most of you start to dislike him. Don't forget he's a pioneer of trance and hits like traffic and adagio are real entertainers.
Much respect for tiësto and his live sets are awesome. My ticket for Tiësto in concert has already been purchased dudes. |
