Wow..no Mr Mystery?
well anyway, stop the flaming, for the ones who got in to trance back in the years 1998 till 2001 this topic should make sense.
for the ones who got in to trance this year and last year, i expect ya shut up noob.
It's all taste indeed, but for me it's very important that Trance music lifts up my head to some other place, usually it's the melody that does this job, and usually the way the tune is build helps alot also.
Where are the 2004 suburban trains? or the My lexicons? or the gouryellas etc.
I don't mean remixes or reworks or edits, but really tunes like these, memorable, tunes that you can keep on repeat without getting bored a sec.
I don't think Trance died, it is changed like someone els mentioned.
But for me, it's ok but not special anymore, hence my winamp has only 200 mp3s or so, most of them are old ones, new ones don't deserve to waste my hardspace :p. |

Ok, first of all: its not my intention to be funny, cause i know i'm not. Second: my taste in trance is definetively not better than yours, that was a stupid statement. As pointed out by someone here, it's not a matter of good or bad taste - it's just taste.
I made this post cause i'm so frustrated and i'm looking for that good feeling i got from listening to trance records years ago. I still love those tracks and i remember i used to go to different record stores four-five times a week just to buy records. Grabbed records i never heard of before, didn't take the time to listen to them and when i come home i just loved them. Nowadays your lucky if there's one cool track once every second month or so. Anyway, i still find treasures i've never heard of before from that period when listening to mix cd's at friends houses or somewhere else, but it's more and more seldom (sp??) nowadays. Missing the days when trance really was magic.. |

I have switched from trance to techy-house, because trance has lost my interest. IMHO, trance just sounds too much alike nowadays. It is hard to find some tracks that really stand out.
It is true that trance is not what it used be, but I wouldn't say it is dead. I still buy some trance tunes every once in a while, but definately not as much as it used to be. |

It could just be that as time has passed your understanding of trance music has increased and as a result stuff that once was gold is now crap. this is very common in ones musical maturation.
I think you truely missing the blissful and naive trance days of yesterday when your brain and musical ear did not have such a profound and deep understanding of the music.
Finding soild time tested records is a hard stuggle. WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF A DJ. It is crazy to expect or beleive that a time will come when you can walk into a record store blindly and just pick up a stack of records and walk out and feel satified w/ the purchase.
No. The struggle, the pain, the disbelief a DJ goes through to find that perfect record is what , imo , makes finding + playing that perfect record so much better.
Trance music is like life you need the up as well as the downs to create the beauty and appericate its complexity. |

I quite agree with the man, trance did indeed peek around the 2001 period. Both commercial and underground was good, but this is probably the reason why there's so much crap out there now. The pop-type-money-hungry record companies recognised its success, and tried to manufacture it, just like pop acts.
There are many many other reasons why trance is suffering, which includes MP3 downloading and alot of good old labels closing down. Actually, alot of music is suffering at the moment but I do agree that trance is certainly not having one of its best moments.
The problem is quanitity - indeed you will find many a great tune if you dig deep enough but the problem is that theres no enough of it! We are clouded by commercial crap, and the sheer number of computer muscians now means that everyone and their granny has made a trance track, alas not always a good one. Also take a look at how many UK clubnights have closed down, Cream is much missed and so many others!
Apparently last year, over 100 record shops closed down in the UK, this obviously has an effect on the industry. We're just going to have to wait until the music business rebuilds itself from the MP3 disaster. Once the commercial market recovers, there'll be more space for quality underground stuff.
And finally... I dont believe that trance is dead. It just went to sleep, and sometime soon I exepect we will see it rise. So until then, keep spinnin' and keep making tunes! |

| trance is not dead and I doubt any genre will really die, most genres get popular then go back underground where they belong. I think that trance has problems with the tripe that certain individuals and their labels are putting out and getting all the artists to make the same formula type stuff, that's awful but I doubt trance will die, same with any genre, they just go back underground. |
