As a matter of fact, I've got something against them. I have no problems communicating face to face or via chat, but calling people makes me feel nervous.
This has to be some kind of trauma from my childhood... :nervous:
Anybody else have a similar problem? |

| I'm the same, but when I had to get a job I HAD to use the phone, so you just force yourself and try and keep your cool. I'm OK now though with using phones :) |

It's the same on here. I hated talking in the phone, bt in my new work I have to do it so much times that now I don't mind if I have to phone someone. So you just have to find a "phonework". :) |

+1
I still hate calling people that I don't know, but i don't get nervous anymore. The worst they can do is tell you to piss off, and I've accepted that. |

Cold calling has got to be the worst job you could have if you hate phones. I don't mind phones and I hated that job.
I love to be wanted so I love the phone and I'm nearly always the first one to pick up the phone at my house. When I get a text message or call on my mobile I can't wait to read or answer it and see how it could be, hopefully some random wrong number. Could be a cool way to meet new people. |

when i was younger all i did was talk on the phone, it drove my mom nuts. but i'm pretty much the same as you now...i really cannot stand talking on the phone. whenever i talk to my bf or anyone, my convos are no longer than a minute or two.
i also get really annoyed with people who talk on the phone constantly. there is this guy i work with who is my age and his cell phone rings off the hook all day long...he is worse than a 15 year old high school chick...not to mention, his convos are so moronic, i get violent thoughts just listening to him. his phone will ring and he's the type that is like, "oh who is this? i don't know this number" and he won't answer it, but then he calls it right back and he's like, "oh did someone just call me". it drives me up a ing wall (excuse my french). lol he'll be right in the middle of a conversation with me and then his phone will vibrate and he'll just answer it...and totally ignore our convo...it's so damn rude...then he hangs up and he's like, "oh what were we talking about"?
and yesterday i was at the gym on the exercise bike, and this chick was on the tredmil across the way....and she was, yea, you guessed it, talking on the phone! :wtf: |

Yup, I despise phones for a couple of reasons. First, you can't see the other person's face or body language so it's much more impersonal and much harder to understand precisely what they mean if something could be interpreted in a few ways. Second, I have the worst time trying to understand people over the phone ("What?" accounts for about 50% of the words I've ever said on the phone).
My last apartment didn't even have a phone, but this time I had to get one. I've only used it a couple of times, though, and I usually keep the ringer off. Most of the people I want to talk to know better than to try to get me on the phone anyway. |

i dislike phones as well. i hardly ever pick up my cell phone when i dont recognize the #. i never call back # i dont recognize. landline, i never pick up... lol i hate calling other ppl on their landlines. never know whos going to pick up. i get really clammy on the phone and i feel like im talking around in circles.
i dislike phones but i despise answering machines even worse. :whip: something about them, i cant stand. i practically never leave messages on answering machines. id rather call them numerous times before i get them than leave a message on their machine and wait for them to call back. i dunno why. my friends get annoyed that i do that. but i guess its just one of my petpeeves. :nervous: |

Yes, answering machines make me feel like a stupid, I don't like to leave messages on them, even if that means 2 days of phone calls to the same number until I can talk to a real person. |

I too have a strong hatred for the answering machine.... I can see how it may have sounded/looked good on paper, but in real-life, they just don't work... like communism!
When I had a cell phone (this is partly why I don't have one anymore) I ALWAYS kept it on Silent. I fscking hate people who are always answering their cute, little, blue-lit-up phone with the jingle balls/Mozart ring-tones and usually jumping right into a conversation, laughing and screaming to someone who isn't even THERE! :whip:
Anyways, my phone was always silent so I could call the person back later on if I felt like talking to them :D
But yeah, I *DREAD* cold calls - meeting someone new over the phone is definitely not the thing for me.
edit: oh , I spelt it Jingle balls... Oh well - I'll leave it because it made me laugh :D |

exactly like me too...always on vibrate. i hate when your phone rings all loud and everyone looks at you...then you feel like they're listening once you answer. lol
or maybe i'm just paranoid... |
