I'm probably sure that this has been done on this board previously, but I'm just curious about films you have seen that have made a significant impact on you, and as a result remain vivid in your memory. Personally, I have just about had it with the traditional cookie-cutter Hollywood films. It seems that Hollywood for the most part, is mass producing garbage that only appeals to the lowest common denominator. Here is a selection of films that I really enjoyed and that have remained dear to me:
Donnie Darko
Memento
American Beauty
A Beautiful Mind
Requiem for a Dream
Pi
City of God
Amelie
A Clockwork Orange
The Pianist
The Deer Hunter
Mulholland Dr.
Blue Velvet
Lost Highway
Garden State
Bowling For Columbine
The Matrix
Fahrenheit 9/11
Platoon
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Gattaca
Fight Club
Magnolia
The Usual Suspects
American History X |

Transfromers the movie/...totally chnged who i am today

American History X
goodfellas
a bronx tale

and (believe it or not) The Beach (actually made me think abt some issues we face in society today)) |

| Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a film I highly recommend. I saw it with my girlfriend when we were going through some hard times, and it hit us both really hard. Amazing film, can't recommend it enough. |

Actually I am waiting for it to come out on video, I have read really good things about it and can't wait to see it. |

| Gattaca is just an amazing movie! Really thought provoking, such a well done movie. I don't understand why it didn't get an oscar! |

TranceXtasy named a lot of good films...so without repeating any...and off the top of my head:
Sunshine - scammed out of the Oscar contention due to the producers delaying release and holding out for a better distribution deal.
Elephant - just very well made...thought provoking.
Barbarella - crazy! (keep in mind the year in which it was made and imagine how avant garde it would have been at the time)
Lost in Translation - Senn Penn was very good in Mystic River, but Bill Murray was ROBBED!!!
Bullworth - in your face message, but still quite relevant...and pretty damn funny at times.
Shawshank Redemption - in my top 10...should have beat out Forrest Gump for best pic that year.
To Kill a Mockingbird - top 10 too...Gregory Peck was amazing.
To Sir with Love - just for nostalgia...the first "big" movie I remember watching when I was really young...Sidney Poitier...respect! |

I'd like to say that Vanilla sky, Lost in translation and most definitely the butterfly effect were NOT thought provoking.
More like, trying to be. |
