I have a few friends who immigrated to Canada when they were young, mostly Polish and Russian, who tell me that their parents would smack them whenever they didn't speak English around native Canadians. That was back in the day when people actually had a concept of respect. In the summer, I worked in a lab, and two or three times a week I would answer the phone and have some dick immediately start speaking Chinese to me, and continue doing so even after I clearly indicated I did not understand. I guess the fact that most people in the lab were Chinese somehow makes it OK to be rude to a non-immigrant on the phone? I felt like hanging up on them every time.
Do people honestly not understand that it's obnoxious and disrespectful to speak a non-native language around native speakers in their native region when they are fully capable of speaking the native language?
Think of how you'd feel if you were in a group of say 5 or 6 people, and 4 of them split off and started whispering to each other so you couldn't hear them. That is precisely what you are doing. Learn some ing RESPECT! After one short trip to Montreal I am already trying to brush up on my French - people should always use the native language of the location they are in. |

brate thats what im saying...thats y ppl shouldnt make these posts...cuz u have ppl come and say stuff that mite insult others...especially in the "yugo" posts where u have all 3 sides involved and were all sensitive on the subject...
DigiNut...if ur insulted, and dont know the language...y do u care...y r u even in the Yugo post, i agree that it doesnt belong here...but its here..so y would u give a damn what yugo ppl have to say about stuff that doesnt concern u |
