There's a difference between pointing out rude behaviour and being personally insulted. Obviously the issue does not concern me but it does not make the behaviour any more appropriate.
This thread should be closed. |

Everybody who isn't Yugoslavian or Serbian or whatever the hell that language is is "an outsider" here. That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. Can you guys not keep this between yourselves or at least debate it in the Political Forum? |

now c'mon people wtf????
first of all, that ser-cro-bosn bul should be over by now, 99% of my friends are all of the above, and honestly if person is nice that person can be ing mutant i'll be nice to him/her, nationality, race and all that is way behind me and it should be behind u people, so that and stop it.
if guy respects boban it's ok, i personaly think that he's one of the biggest pieces of on this planet, NOT because he's croatian (some of my very very close friends are croats), but at that game pigs were doing their job, trying to stop that madness and that balsy KICKED THE COP on national tv. NOT SMART, just adding more fuel on fire. But guy thinks that was cool, and i respect his opinion, boban is a good soccer player but he's nothing to likes of piksi (just to nema the few).
diginut, i always read your posts, and even tho some of them are really lenghty, you do make sense, but now i dont understand why did you butted in. as you can see english is my second language, and whenever i talk (type, etc..) to my countryman i'll do it in our native language cause i do respect you and yours but me and mine ALWAYS comes first, always. its not disrespect or rude to talk about our in our language on this board, on the street or in the club.
| quote: | | I have a few friends who immigrated to Canada when they were young, mostly Polish and Russian, who tell me that their parents would smack them whenever they didn't speak English around native Canadians. |
my parents dont speak english, very little, people who worked all their lives for us to have better life, than came to canada in their late 40's without anything and had to start working even hared to get us on a right path, and you think that they had time to learn english ??? what should i do, smack them???

why, cause we were typing in serbian/croatin/bosnian ??????
c'mon dude, i think that you're smarter than that !

After one short trip to Montreal I am already trying to brush up on my French - people should always use the native language of the location they are in. |
i think that im speaking for all of us "yugo" people when i say that we have been really respectfull on this board, reviews of the parties, comments on this or that, all our posts have been in english, right?
so what's the problem then, we cannot write here in our language????
and again, you sound like smart man, think 2-3 more times abot that "this thread should be closed" ,and you'll see that it doesnt sound right.
im not trying to start anything with anybody, just giving my opinion on all this .
if u gonna insult each other, then go ahead and you
P.S.JA SAM LUD, JA SAM JAK JA SAM ZELJIN MANIJAK.(translation : "i'm crazy, i'm strong, i'm zeljo's maniac")

And why do you have to complain about our language? I didn't go around complaining whenever the TA's that are Russian (or speak russian) started posting in their language... why? I don't care. Do whatever you feel comfortable with doing...
So chill, and if you can't understand it, just don't read it... aaahhh, freedom of speech. :D
And Jay, I am Canadian... only on paper though. In my heart and mind I never was and never will be a Canadian. Sorry bro, but I am not letting go of my background and my people just yet, and if I was to adopt somebody else's culture/way of life, it certainly wouldn't be the Canadian. |

First of all, I'm not talking about the people who can't speak English, I'm talking about the ones who can and choose not to. You can see that there is a major difference.
Secondly, what is this crap about not having the "time to learn English?" No you should not smack your parents, but people who immigrate here and don't even bother to learn at least ONE of our national languages represent everything that is wrong with the immigrant situation in this country!
I don't even know why you brought that up. I don't mean to disrespect your parents, but you said you read my posts, so you ought to know that on numerous occasions I've slammed the Canadian system for allowing immigrants to quietly live their lives in this country without adapting at all to our society and culture.
If somebody can't speak a word of English, fine - I could barely speak any French when I went to Montreal and I could barely speak any Hebrew when I went to Israel. But I would NOT decide to MOVE there and LIVE there without learning how to do so, and I would DEFINITELY not be so rude as to revert to English in a foreign country in mixed company simply because *some* people in the group might speak it.
As I said, the friends that I talk about came from Poland or Russia, some from other parts of Europe, and none of them spoke a word of English originally either. They came, they adapted, they learned the language. That's how it is supposed to work - you adapt to the land you emigrate to, not try to make it adapt to you. |

Great, just like all the Ginos who insist that they're really Italian.
Get real. I have just as much of a problem with the Russians huddling around in cyrillic characters, but try to find me a thread in here where that's been done recently? Most people are decent and polite enough to simply not do it. Freedom of speech? Sure, it's not illegal to be a jackass. I never said it was criminal, just rude.
Go ahead and talk about your background and culture to your heart's content. Organize Serbian meetups to Serbian restaurants, but do it in English for God's sake. |

Diginut:
I think there is a Russian thread in the COR. Why shouldn't there be a YUGO thread?
Why don't you go contaminate the russian thread with useless posts, and maybe get the mods to close both of these threads...
 |
