| If you are going to go on paying $200+, might as well get the real thing, colocate something at ev1servers.net, or you could always fork a bit more and get something with Akamai :p |

wouldn't having a FDS be better then any of their shared server packages? less chances of down-time. plus with a FDS you can host as many domains as you want. that to me is worth $220. |
If they're overselling their data pipe then no dedicated server is going to help.
If they're overselling their support capabilities then no dedicated server is going to help. |

They are VERY good - soooo good!
My only issue with them is the package I want is always sold out... But other than that EV1 is top notch. |

Yup!! We have 5 boxes with them here at work as well as one of their new clusters with an extra box on the pnet, i ing love it. In the two years that I've been here, I've seen no down time.
The last box we bought was up and running 10 seconds after I hit the submit button for the order :D |

They used to be good, 1-2 years ago, they have since gone downhill. 3 Years ago I moved there and paid a crazy setup fee only because at the time they had the best monthly package and over the span of a year the setup fee was a moot point. They were the first to offer 400GB for $99/month - since that time bandwidth prices have tumbled (Cogent's entrance into the market helped) and other hosting companies were able to up the ante bandwidth wise. Yes, they still have some great packages and are reliable but you can get better hardware/support/features for cheaper elsewhere. If you notice they still have a lot of 2.0/2.4 Xeons in stock and they're gonna be around a while since a lot of customers (linux purists) left after the SCO fiasco earlier in the year. That hurt them immensely.
Which is why I moved my main ta server to theplanet.com, I get more than I can get at EV1 for less. I would move my other boxes from EV1 but the only thing keeping me there is the fact I have unlimited domain licenses for Ensim Pro and the clients I host are used to that control panel and I don't want to change control panels / pay for an ensim license elsewhere. |

Just tell me the specs you need and I can find you a place...
FYI, all of you that go for the cheapest hosting everywhere because of how much space / bandwidth they offer you -- keep in mind, once you approach the upper limits of any of those on a consistent basis you're in danger of being told to read some obscure part of the terms of service/agreement that states that if at any time you use a certain amount of 'excessive' resources on a 'shared' hosting account that they can shut u down.
However, if it is much more than you're ever going to use then by all means, go for the cheap places. |

since the system site is bandwidth heavy, i'd need at least 1,000GB bandwidth, 10GB+ HDD, must be a dedicated server, must be fast obviously, uses ensim pro, non-windows based server. |
