A few, but it's still quite impressive for 2 months of swedish ;) I know people that have been living in sweden for more than 2 years and yet never have said anything in swedish. |

"Öl FRÅN systembolaget ÄR så jävla dyrT"
did you mean that you are not rich? in that case "Jag är inte rik"
| quote: | | Tycker Jack Daniels Whiskey alltid! |
Did you mean that you like it a lot or that you always drink it? i guess the first one, that would be "Jag tycker bäst om Jack Daniels Whiskey"

I also use an US keyboard.
In WinXP:
Go to configuration panel -> national/local settings -> 2nd tab (language) -> information
Make sure language is English or Swedish and set the keyboard mapping to US International (101/104).
You might have to reboot but after that you can use:
"+a = ä
"+o = ö
ctrl-alt-w = å
you can even use them for other special characters
"+e = ë ; "+i=ī ; "+u=ü ; "+y=˙
ctrl-alt-z = æ ; ctrl-alt-k = ø ; ctrl-alt-s = ß
adding SHIFT to the combination will give the capital version
Ä Ö Å Ø Æ ß Ī Ü |
huh I just have a square in the tray that as either EN for US english or SV for Swedish and toggling that changes the keyboard to a Swedish model - most keys are the same but ; is ö and ' is ä and [ is å!
I lived in Sweden for 6 mos- I hope you get to stay longer. I was confused as Swedish many times and had taken 2.5 years of Swedish prior to visiting Uppsala. That being said I learned more Swedish in 6 mos than almost 3 years at Uni.
I often felt nervous about practicing, unless my boss harassed me at my nations disco - snaps has a way of getting the swedish language out of you...but right when I left I felt I was very proficient. Make sure you arent just speaking tho, make sure to read and listen to Swedish LANGUAGE music as it helps a ton. Abba and Ace of Base are already covered on the radio, youll hear those plenty but they wont improve your Swedish.
Ha det bra och pluggar du mycket! Resa nanstans- Estland var jattekul! Skal| |

Btw... you should join the "MondayBar Lucia Cruise 2004"... I can tell you about it but won't in this thread cause it would take up to much space cause all of the good stuff I have to tell you about it :gsmile: |

Oh yah i was wondering do any of you shop at LIDL?
A lot of my other international friends shop there cuz its so cheap (billig?), yet the pasta and rice somehow takes 30 minutes to boil...its like its made out of plastic!
is it worth saving the money there? |

yeah and not to mention a huge lake that brings cold winds!
well i had to take this one econ class i need to graduate this upcoming may, and i tried looking in stockholm, but there werent any schools that offered the class in english too.
stockholm would be MUCH more fun, although a the commute into the city would probably take forever. ive been there twice and its been fun, but sort of too "big and busy" for me... |

you're right that works too but then you lose the functionality of the keys that are on those position before the toggle, and you have to toggle every time... i prefer using the shortcut-keys. when you've got used to them they're very easy to remember.

hm exactly the reason why I wouldn't wanna live there. I get freaked out in big cities :toothless .. suburbs are more to my liking but unfortunately most suburbs there are relatively far away (which calls on transport problems) or downgraded to sort-of ghetto's (that's even worse then living in the centre of a city). |
