What does trance music mean to you?

Was reading a book on dance music culture the other day and the author described Paul van Dyk's music as conjuring images of "... smooth lines, warmth, blue skies and open spaces... the difference between cheap speed and the clean rush of Mitsubishi [ecstasy pills]" .
Thought this was a wonderful way to describe trance music. What images does trance conjure for you (either chemically assisted or otherwise ;) )?
For me, a lot of trance music makes me think of a Japanese bullet train gliding at hundreds of miles an hour across minimalist landscapes or, for the harder stuff, some giant dark machine pumping out relentless pounding rhythms.
Only touched acid the once, by the way. ;) |

| Whenever i listen to trance music, it gives me the feeling of deep longing. Something very precious, lost in the sands of time. Something mysterious and deep. All of the above. :whip: |

I fully agree, and add that trance music leads me to beautiful and wide places on green majestic mountains, where clouds run fast...
Something like squeezing the clouds in the sky... silly, hee? |

| trance music to me is a healer of the soul. Always as i listen to trance I don't just listen but I also feel it in my body. This music is gliding through me. Hard to say it in words, but i belive that u all feeling the same. When i go to trance party i don't need to dance on music but the music dances me (no drugs added - best partyes to me are the ones without it, because i can feel the music better with clear head). Trance is like spiritual music i gues. That is how i feel it! |

Depends on a lot of things. Mood, current environment I am in, who I am with, the actual trance itself... all sorts of things. Listening to trance is like putting together a story. For example...
One night I picked my brother up at Barnes and Noble (a book store here in the states). He is only 12 so has an extremely open and imaginitive mind. Might also have to do with the fact that he is an artist. But anyway... I had popped in one of my trance mixes for the ride home and we listened to a live 10 minute track of Tiesto. I forget the name but it begins with 3 minutes of orchestra... and then the beat drops 3 minutes and 16 seconds in. It was amazing, it was dark outside, I had the windows up and my brother and I just sat there for the entire track completely silent while bobbing our heads and moving to the music. Heh, the song even ended just as soon as I had finished parking. Anyway... back to the point.
Right before we got out he looks at me and says, "That was amazing! The entire song I had pictured this crazy battle of these 2 mech warriors battling eachother!" He continued for about 5 minutes explaining each second of the battle, how they had stared eachother down in the beginning and then worked thier way up into the fight. How they were fighting eachother all the way to the last move of how the one mech beat the other. And it hit me just after his story as to how influential trance music can be... and in a good way. It is music that lets you free your mind (basically it in a nutshell). If for any reason you are stressed out or just in a bad mood... trance always has a way of bringing you up. Many more thoughts going through my head right now but Im at work while posting so I will just end it at that. :D |

Trance seems like everything to me. Every one of the descriptions listed in this thread so far is an accurate portrayal of how trance makes me feel. ;)
Specifically, though, to name a memory, trance is an everlasting ocean; sort of a cloud-filled but ever-bright realm of endless, placid waters. You can only sail off into the indistinct yet all-to-clear horizon and your only landmark is a verdant island right in front of you. Upon this island is a waterfall that seems to have no beginning - just flowing, blue waters crashing into a crystal bay amidst neverending cliffs filled with lush purple flowers and limpid, green leves. Marking the bay is a polished statue of pure gold, a beautiful, nude goddess holding above her a light which gleams with the fuel of a trillion stars. Looking into the light, you see only the same scene you would know as though you had not looked into the light - this is the infinite paradise which envelopes your curiosity and love, not taking away, but sharing with all beings. *cues vocals from Gamemaster* :D
This was the most imagery I could think of to write in a description - I hope it evoked a similiar feeling within all of you ;) |

| Trance music acts as a vehicle into the mind, reliving memories and inspiring you to go forward ... towards experiences that will eventually become the yesterday you envisioned today never knowing it would happen tomorrow. |
