Microsoft to stop bundling Media Player (pg. 5)

Speaking of better alternatives, here is a faster, lighter player - Media Player Classic:

Not only does it play the usual avi,mpg,avi , it also plays .ram and .mov so gets rid of the annoying real player , quicktime need (At least for local files) |

Or just give the 95% of the users that know nothing about computers, "something" as opposed to nothing when they first get their computer.
People always change things to their preference after buying a product anyways.
Just like cars, not everyone stays with the factory wheels when they buy the car but I don't remember anyone complaining about who made the wheels on the car... :confused: |

But then they would be in violation of the law by using their power of monopoly in one industry to thwart competition in another. 2 real options exists:
1) Force the user to download the product from a list
2) Bundle both products with the OS

However, I do believe that MS has the people and the resources to come up with a great product. As much as I'd love to believe that Google hired all the smartest people in the world, that simply isn't true. MS has some top notch people working for them as well, and considering their search engine budget is about 6 billion dollars, I think they have a chance of creating a product that will be enough for most users.
Google cannot afford to believe that MS won't come with anything as good their own search engine. That is why they constantly need to continue to innovate, to come up with new amazing products. That's why they came up with gmail, and hopefully will come up with more amazing products in the future.
That's the beauty of competition ! We, end users, end up much better off ! |
Very true. The thing that has always bothered me about M$ is how little they have actually built from the ground up and completely by themselves. They have all the money in the world, but they really don't have any products that make you crap your pants cause its so fantastic. Their business and marketing strategies are pure genious however.

Look at some of the packaged goods companies and you'll see the same thing (PepsiCo anyone?). |

Wait a second, isn't that still illegal though? Making it a "critical update" would scare most regular users into downloading it. Which really is the equivalent of still using their power of monopoly.
I suppose it could be a loop hole though... |

oh its illegal? oh wait, do microsoft care? ehm, nope.
it will eventually go to court, and after a looong time the court will say that it is illegal and microsoft will stop do that. it will cost microsoft some money (that is big for us but nothing at all for them), but under the time they get their product widely spread.
thats how they have always done. |

i recently bought a laptop, and i tried to find someone without windows (still PC), but i didnt find any :S so much for consumers able to chose something else... anyway, so if i want i can send the OEM cd to MS for refund? |
