When we went to my friends hotel room to change, he fell asleep on a chair in mid conversation....yeah, we weren't going ANYWHERE after that except for home.
Oh yeah, does anyone have:
1) more links to pictures? I can't find any on the web.

Dude, I have been posting in the Florida section on this site for 2 weeks. I kept asking if anyone was gonna go or not. No reply. I posted on TA, CoolJunkie and Club planet.
My friend told me about the meet up, but by the time I picked up my friend form the airport and getting lost in the city trying to find the Haight Ashbury, I was already 1 1/2 hours late for the start of the parade, Let alone the meet up.

Alright TA's. Here comes my lengthy review of last Saturday's Love Parade. Now that I have had sufficient time to rest and remember everything that happened.
IS THERE NO END TO THIS HELL?!
First off, the last two weeks before the Love Parade had been very bad for me. I had been pulling some long hours at work, trying to make more money because my cash flow of late had been really suffering. Ever since I moved out from my parent's house it just seemed like my money was going to nothing but bills and groceries. No matter how hard I worked, I just could not get enough spending money to go have fun, and I especially worked hard the past two weeks just to get some money for the Love Parade. Not to mention the issue of some hacker who tried pulling off my credit card information to take money out of my account. Thank goodness he only took out 20 before my card got blocked. Anyway, it had been a bad, lonely and depressing two weeks. The Love Parade seemed to be the only faint light at the end of the tunnel. The party I hoped, that would become an ultimate release from the growing pressures of life.
HOW BOUT A QUICK BLAZE?
Finally Friday comes rolling around and reading the other TA's eager responses for the event had me excited. It seemed like there was going to be a very big TA meetup at the Metreon and I really wanted to be a part of that. I had told a bunch of my friends about the Love Parade and if anyone wanted to go with me, but most seemed to think it was a parade for gays, or something in that sense, so everyone turned me down. The only person who I knew was going with me was my cousin, so I thought at least that would be cool. Just pick him up and drive to SF, then hook up with the other TA's and party like crazy. Sounded like a solid enough plan. After work, I couldn't wait to go home and get some sleep, and off to home I went. But then one of my friends came over, thinking there was going to be some big co-worker kickback at my place tonight. There wasn't, and I could tell he was disappointed, but what could I do? I just wanted to go to bed. But I stayed up to kick it with him, which he then offered if I wanted to smoke a bowl with him. He had just enough green bud to smoke 3 bowls. One for him, one for my roommate, and one for me. At first I was reluctant, but with him and my roommate pressuring me to take a quick hit, I thought, "Oh what the Hell?" and smoked a bowl of some strong green bud which actually made me throw up. It was gross, but 20 minutes later, the MJ kicked in well. And before I knew it, I was up til 5 a.m. watching both television and my lava lamp, laughing my ass off to both. Finally I went to bed, knowing I would only get 4 hours of sleep as I would have to get up at 9 a.m. to leave.
OVERSLEEP IS A B-I-T-C-H
I didn't wake up until 10 a.m., and already I knew that getting in SF in time for the meet was now out of the window. I should have been angry with myself about that but the effects of the weed was still in me, and I had trouble trying to remember everything I needed to take with me. Just kept remembering and forgetting, remembering and forgetting. Finally I think I got all my stuff together and am about to hit the road, until I realize I forgot to gas up for the trip. So I had to go to the gas station to fill up and didn't get on the freeway til 11:15 a.m. Oie. :(
BACK TO THE BAY AREA
I got to the town of Alamo around noonish, and drove around the Safeway for about 10 minutes looking for my cousin. Found him loafing around the parking lot and off we went to Walnut Creek. Our plan was to take BART to SF as to not worry about parking. Head back to Walnut Creek after the LP was over on BART, then drive to Oakland for an afterparty we heard was gonna go down. At least those plans seem to be holding up. It was the first time I actually rode BART, even though I have lived in Northern California for all my life. The train ride was smooth and enjoyable, although it made me sleepy. 5 hours of sleep and already I was feeling it. But I didn't let that bring me down. We made it in SF around 2 pm and at first thought the sounds of the protesters protesting outside this hotel was the start of the parade but it wasn't. Blah. We walked several blocks for about another 15 minutes before we finally found the parade. At first, the initial sight of the parade didn't seem impressive, but after some picture taking and walking alongside the floats, the vibe started to pick up. I had my oversized red and white checkered hat on and I was grooving to the Jungle and house floats. Walking along the Embarcadero was also pretty cool. Seeing hundreds of costume clad people dancing on the streets to EDM with the Bay Bridge as a backdrop was very surreal, yet riveting! We also found some people selling tickets to Preserve the Vibe 2, the afterparty we were planning on attending. We eagerly paid 10 dollars for the presales, and the girl actually gave us some PTV candy bracelets after seeing me and my coz decked out in candy. I then asked them where the party was going to be and they told me just to call the info line once the sun went down. I had no arguments about that. We thanked the promoters and continued walking towards Pier 48 as the parade started to end and the post parade festival was starting to take shape. Beautiful SF weather too I must add.
THE SEARCH FOR TA'S
Well you know how it is, time goes by while you're having fun, and before I knew it, it was already 5 p.m. Even though I had been enjoying the parade, my eyes were still on the prowl for any TA's that I was hoping to meet. A sign, some familiar gear, anything. I was especially looking forward to Melissa because we had been talking off and on on the phone for a few months and she told me she was coming to the Love Parade. I had talked to her on on the phone on Thursday and she told me because of roaming charges, I should just text her when I got into the city. So I had done that. Had been eagerly waiting a reply, but had received none. About 5 o'clock and still not seen or came in contact with anyone, I had grown concerned, thinking something may have happened to her. But my cousin told me she probably lost her phone or something, so I put it in the back of my head. I just left her one last text saying to spot a guy in a red and white checkered hat if you can. 10 minutes later though, some cute blonde chicks approached me and asked if they could have my hat. At first I was like, "Yeah right." But after they did some sweet talking to me, gave me and my coz hugs and posed for a few pics, well...I was feeling the love. So I gave 'em my hat without a fight. I guess I was just elated that I had finally talked to someone during the LP. They said thanks and took off. My cousin was surprised that I did that, but I didn't care. It was only 5 minutes later that it hit that now if Melissa had gotten that text message, she wouldn't recognize me now that my hat was gone. That was a mistake on my part, but again, I put it off. I was hear to have fun. And if I didn't get to meet anyone this day it will still be all good. Cuz it was the Love Parade and the good vibes that mattered. And so far, the vibes were good...very good. :)
POST PARADE FESTIVAL
Around 6 me and my coz took a taxi to the nearest McDonalds to get some grub. When I entered the McD's, I felt like I got some weird looks from the candy I was wearing, but I didn't care. We got some chicken sandwiches and were back in the festival around 6:30
I took some more pics and walked around the place, in total awe at the size of the event. Much more people had come to this than I had imagined, and now that everyone was gathered in one place for the festival, the turn out looked so much more impressive. We went to grab a red bull for a quick pick-me-up, then headed to the Skills float to do some more dancing. They were throwing down some sick hard dance tracks and I immediately became lost in the music. You all should know that feeling. When the music finally hits you and the rhythm takes control of your body. The sun was beginning to set and it just made the atmosphere even more better. Soon people were starting to bring out their glow sticks and other light accessories, making the festival feel like a massive outdoor rave. I was having a great time, even if it was just me and my cousin. For me, the Skills float was where it was at, and I soon couldn't help but pull out my light toy either, pulling off a few random moves that I had never done with it before but getting instant approval from the people around me, high fives and the like. :D
A little later on I started seeing dancers rockin' it out on top of the speakers of the Skills float. They were pulling some cool moves on it and I took a few more pics. My focus started moving to the left of the float when I saw some guy wearing an eskimo costume busting out these cool looking flashing light globes. I have never seen those before, and now I want one. Which reminds me, I'll have to check the on-line stores for any of those. And then this dark tanned girl wearing a gray and pink eskimo costume also started dancing behind the eskimo guy and was doing some cool dance moves as well. My thoughts were "Wow, the Skills promoters sure hired some good dancers for this event." But as I kept looking at the girl, my instincts were telling me that I need to talk to her. It was weird, but seeing as she was on the float, and thinking she was a dancer hired by Skills, I put those thoughts aside and kept dancing to the music. A little while later I saw her come off the float and messing with her handbag (Ok I really hope I don't come off as a stalker on this, I was just perplexed that's all), and again my instincts were telling me to talk to her. Again I was asking myself why, until I started thinking that maybe, that girl was Melissa. I was in disbelief about it, but as she started walking away, I knew I had to find out for certain before I lost her in the crowd. So I turned to my cousin and told him to follow me, cuz I think I might have spotted her. I walked and found her by the beverage stand and my mind was going, "OMG how the Hell are you going to talk to her? Just go up to her and ask if she's from Florida? She's so gonna give you weird looks and leave." But hey, I was already high off the good vibes, so no matter what happened, it wouldn't bring me down. So I went up to her and told her that I really enjoyed her dance moves. She thanked me and gave me a hug. I then asked her what her name was, and she replied, "Melissa." Whoa. :nervous: that sent shockwaves down my body, and it was an awkward moment for me, but then I asked her if she was from Florida. She looked at me weirdly and then said yes. Suddenly, excitement replaced nervousness and I exclaimed wildly, "OH ! It's me, Jason from TranceAddict." Holy crap! "Whats up dude!!!!!" And we both hugged each other again. I have no idea why I called her a dude, but you know, I just got lost in the moment. It was a great experience. So we walked together for a while and caught up with one another away from the floats, with that magnificient Bay Bridge backdrop in the night sky. It was so surreal, so dreamlike. It was like talking to a friend that I have known for a while, but not really seeing them until now. Actually that's how it really was like, and it was great.
We took some pics and walked over to the Spundae float. I went into the crowd and danced while Mel went on the float and took more pics. They had turned the lasers on now and I was seeing some cool light shows that people were throwing. I love lights. When she came back down over to me I then asked her if she could give me a light show. Don't know why I asked that, I wasn't rolling or anything, but I asked anyway. She smiled, and pulled out some cool red and green photons, and gave one helluva cool light show. It was just...perfect. Being swept away in a flurry of lights, surrounded by thousands of music lovers, and Sandra Collins spinning some nice proggy house in the background, with everything moving so unusally slow. God it just felt like I was in the movie Groove. But I wasn't the only one who enjoyed that light show. Seemed while she was twirling those photons, a small circle had formed around us and several other people were enjoying the show as well. It was awesome. I gave her another hug when she finished. At the end of the festival I helped her find her friend Karloz and then lost her in the crowd. Man, that also felt like a dream. Karloz had pulled her away when he found her and my coz was pulling me away cuz we had to get to the after party. Which reminded me, I needed to call the info line.
And then things sucked a little, cuz I found out then that the afterparty was not being thrown in Oakland, it was being thrown just a ways from SFO international airport. That meant we had to ride BART back to Walnut Creek, pick up my ride and drive back across the Bay Bridge, through Frisco and exit off 101 to Millbrae. Crazy night. We did manaage to find the afterparty and that party was cool too. Met a lot of people there and stayed until 6 a.m. Man, what a crazy night. We partied from 2-6 in the morning. 16 hours of raving. At the end of the day I had eaten only 2 chicken sandwiches, drank 8 waters and 4 Red Bulls. And when I finally came home around 9:30 a.m., I slept for 14 hours. But I'd do it all again. :stongue:
Okay sorry if this review is really really long, just had a lot of things to say. Major thanks to the SF promoters for throwing the LP. You have no idea how much fun this was and how it helped me release my stresses of life here in Mo-town. And it was great kicking it with you Mel. Sorry we didn't have time to say good-bye to each other, but hey, I'm thankful for that short meet up anyways. CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR! :tongue3 :tongue3 |
